Attorney - Commercial Real Estate and Community Associations
McCabe, Trotter & Beverly, P.C., columbia, sc, United States
Help Build and Grow a Commercial Real Estate Practice
McCabe, Trotter & Beverly is seeking a high-performing attorney to support and help grow its commercial real estate and development practice, while also playing a key role in an established HOA and community association practice.
We currently represent a select group of developer clients and handle land acquisition and development matters. While this portion of the practice is actively growing, the role will also include substantial involvement in HOA formation, governance, and transactional work, which makes up a significant portion of our existing workload.
This is an opportunity for an attorney who wants to do meaningful deal work, build relationships with developers, and play a direct role in expanding a practice area, while maintaining a steady and sophisticated base of HOA-related work.
What You’ll Do
You will work across a mix of commercial real estate transactions and HOA representation, with increasing involvement in development work over time.
- Lead and support land acquisition and development transactions from contract through closing
- Draft and negotiate purchase agreements, easements, and development-related documents
- Conduct and oversee due diligence (title, survey, zoning, and development constraints)
- Identify and resolve title and survey issues, including curative work
- Work directly with developers, lenders, and other key stakeholders
- Contribute to the growth and expansion of the firm’s development-side practice
HOA & Community Association Work
- Assist developers in establishing HOAs and community regimes
- Draft and amend declarations, bylaws, and governing documents
- Serve as general counsel to HOAs, advising boards and managers on legal and operational matters
- Prepare contracts, policies, and other association-related documents
- Provide practical, solutions-oriented advice on day-to-day issues
Who We’re Looking For
- 3 to 5+ years of commercial real estate experience, HOA law, or a combination of both
- Experience with land acquisition, development, or commercial transactions is strongly preferred
- HOA or community association experience is a plus (but not required)
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple matters with precision and efficiency
Non‑Negotiables
- You are exceptionally detail oriented; you catch what others miss
- You take responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks
- You can manage multiple transactions at once without letting details slip
- You are responsive, organized, and proactive
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in South Carolina and in good standing
Why This Role Stands Out
- Opportunity to help build a commercial real estate and development practice
- Exposure to land acquisition and developer‑side work, with room to grow that pipeline
- Strong foundation of ongoing HOA and transactional work
- Direct client interaction and early ownership of matters
- Collaborative, high‑performance team with minimal bureaucracy
Our Core Values
- Grow & Improve
- Be a Positive Team Player
- Go the Extra Mile
Benefits include
- 401(k) with matching
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- Health savings account (HSA) and flexible spending account (FSA) options
- Paid time off
- Retirement plan
Who Will Thrive Here
- Play a meaningful role in growing a practice, not just servicing one
- Do substantive commercial real estate work while maintaining a diverse practice
- Build relationships with developers and become a go-to advisor over time
- Operate in a high-accountability, high‑standards environment
If you are seeking a challenging and rewarding opportunity with a firm that values competence, integrity, and professional growth, we encourage you to apply.
