Position Summary
Reporting to the site General Manager, the Director of Operations manages daily production, inventory, and logistics to ensure safe, efficient, cost‑effective delivery to our customers. The role is responsible for developing and implementing strategy, achieving growth and profitability targets, and maintaining safety, quality, delivery, inventory, productivity, and lean objectives for the PSG‑Grand Rapids facility. The Director also oversees safety, plant management, manufacturing operations, supply chain, capital equipment, facilities planning, workforce development, and operations strategy deployment, driving continuous improvement and empowering the team to solve problems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage business to achieve or exceed agreed‑upon growth, revenue, and operating income objectives.
- Oversee end‑to‑end supply chain partnerships, warehousing, inventory management, and transportation.
- Ensure products meet profitability goals.
- Establish strategic direction, performance metrics, standards, and measurements for direct reports and the operation to support safety, quality, and delivery expectations.
- Set operational goals and objectives, guiding teams to meet monthly, quarterly, and annual targets.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to manage the P&L and continuously execute to achieve revenue and margin commitments.
- Provide support and leadership to supply chain, production planning, manufacturing, and continuous improvement teams through:
- Supporting sales & operations planning (S&OP) and planning manufacturing capacity accordingly to ensure on‑time and efficient delivery.
- Identifying and responding to market trends, anticipating and applying strategies to stay ahead of cost and quality changes.
- Planning and executing a best‑in‑class supply chain to maintain appropriate inventory levels, turns, supplier quality, and cost.
- Directing the continuous improvement program and supporting on‑site initiatives to ensure adoption and achievement of results.
- Ensuring products are delivered on time and meet all customer expectations regarding quality and performance.
- Planning and implementing capital improvements for the site and operations.
- Work proactively with functional counterparts to ensure organizational success and continuity of leadership.
- Partner with union leadership to maintain collective bargaining agreement compliance while supporting operational goals.
- Foster a positive employee relations environment, motivating and engaging staff in continuous improvement.
- Conduct performance evaluations, coach, mentor, provide feedback, and take action to build a high‑performing department.
- Embody the company’s ethics and values; maintain the highest corporate governance principles.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, operations management, or related field (required).
- MBA/Master’s degree or equivalent experience (preferred).
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in manufacturing, supply chain, or other operational leadership roles.
- Experience in a build‑to‑order/high‑mix manufacturing environment (required).
- Proven background in production/inventory control, procurement procedures, and logistics.
- Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to develop and execute long‑term strategic plans.
- Proven leadership with the ability to motivate teams and drive accountability.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence at all organizational levels.
