The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA is seeking a dynamic and visionary Associate Executive Director to help lead the opening and growth of one of the most exciting YMCA facilities in the country.

Located in the rapidly growing community of Wesley Chapel, Florida, the Mary W. Sierra YMCA is a brand-new, flagship YMCA facility currently under construction and scheduled to serve thousands of families in the region. This state-of-the-art center will anchor a thriving community and represents a rare opportunity to help launch and lead a major YMCA operation from the ground up.

The Mary W. Sierra YMCA will be one of the premier YMCA facilities in the Southeast and will include:

The Opportunity

The Associate Executive Director will serve as a key member of the center’s leadership team and play a critical role in shaping the culture, programs, and growth strategy of this new YMCA.

This Leader Will Provide Supervision Of The Directors (including Recruiting And Hiring) And Strategic Leadership For Multiple Major Program Areas Including:

  • Aquatics
  • Wellness
  • Youth and Adult Sports
  • Youth Programming (Camp, Afterschool, KDO, Family Programming and Stay & Play)

The Associate Executive will oversee program directors and their teams, ensuring best-in-class program delivery, exceptional member experience, and strong operational performance. This role will also contribute to strategic planning, membership growth, financial management, and community partnerships that expand the YMCA’s impact.

Essential Functions

  • BA/BS from an accredited college or university in business, non-profit management or related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in business operations, growth and development, community involvement, relationship building, program/business line development, staff selection, supervision and development, and day-to-day enterprise operations management.
  • Prior experience in large facility management (40sf or larger) and/or program area management preferred.
  • Supervision of large Y operations or similar health, wellness, recreation operation (Executive, or Operations Director Level) that exceeds $3M in operating revenue and 2,000 membership units (households) preferred; preference will be given to candidates with Y operational experience.
  • Demonstrated skills in fiscal management and financial development (including annual campaign and capital campaigns) with a track record of exceeding operating margin and fundraising budget targets.
  • Prior experience leading and/or supporting large community/special events.
  • Highly motivated and entrepreneurial with the consistent ability to meet or exceed goals, cultivate and retain members, volunteers, and program participants.
  • Ability to quickly build rapport and develop effective relationships with members, volunteers, program prospects and others to achieve goals.
  • Consistently self-driven and goal-oriented with the ability to set effective team and individual goals and take ownership for results.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and adapt to changing contexts and priorities.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify and leverage relevant data to use in planning and decision-making.
  • Ability to understand, adapt to and interact with diverse people, teams, perspectives and cultures.
  • Proficient in using email, Internet, and other PC-based applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, customer service/tracking applications) with the ability to learn and adapt to new technology.
  • Valid driver license and will require occasional local travel.
  • Must obtain and maintain CPR AED for Professional Rescuers, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certificates within 30 days of employment and thereafter as per training matrix.

Work Environment And Physical Demands

  • Regular use of computer and authorized work phone/smart device.
  • Ability to perform walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Movement around the work environment and lifting minimum of 30 pounds.
  • Ability to see, observe, and hear all participants, and make sound judgments and decisions.
  • Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, and adjustment ability.
  • Work in environments with extreme humidity/dampness, heat, and cold.
  • Noise level usually moderate.
  • Availability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays, and ground support during weather events.

Accountability

Accountable for completion of assigned goals as measured by the number of people served, cause-driven measures, operating results, financial margins, grant metrics, and supervisor evaluation of assigned duties.
