BD Excellence Fundamentals Associate Director

Job Description

The BD Excellence Fundamentals Associate Director is responsible for supporting the deployment of the BDE Fundamental tools through leading training events and facilitating kaizens across BD’s Business Units, Regions, and Corporate Functions. They will serve as a subject‑matter expert (SME) for assigned tools and partner with key stakeholders involved in the development of BD Excellence—including BD Excellence Tool Owners, BU leaders, and Functional thought leaders. As the primary representative of the Fundamentals team based at BD’s corporate headquarters in Franklin Lakes, NJ, the associate director will place particular emphasis on supporting and partnering with the Corporate Finance and Human Resources functions located on‑site.

Job Responsibilities

  • Partner with the BDE Fundamentals owner to strategically deploy the developed Fundamentals tools and process throughout the greater BDX organization.
  • Partner with BD Excellence leaders across BUs, regions, and functions to drive adoption of BD Excellence tools and to actively solve critical issues in support of business objectives/KDGs.
  • Own and assist in the development of Lean tool training materials and artifacts.
  • Become a Certified Practitioner in BD Excellence Fundamental tools: Problem Solving Process (PSP), Visual Management (VM), Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Transactional Process Improvement (TPI), and Standard Work (SW).
  • Be a change champion in the development and deployment of BD Excellence mindset and tools.
  • Schedule, lead, and sustain BD Excellence Fundamentals tool events and kaizens for all levels (front‑line associates to executive team members).
  • Mentor cross‑functional teams on operating rigor and continuous improvement—80% acting as a “coach”, 20% as a “professor”.
  • Serve as a thought partner to the BD Excellence team, supporting the adoption and deployment of BD Excellence tools and mindset across departments and regions.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business, Engineering, or Supply Chain.
  • 5+ years proven experience in a company with a continuous improvement culture and the core tools of problem solving, visual management, and kaizen.
  • 3+ years of experience leading kaizen and/or training events structured around lean/continuous improvement tools.
  • 3+ years of experience facilitating training and/or training events across multiple sites/businesses.
  • Significant career experience in an organization where a business system is part of the culture and the core tools of visual management, problem solving, and kaizen are embedded in all aspects of the business.
  • Significant career experience leading continuous improvement initiatives and Lean talent development within Finance and Human Resources functions.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Proven ability to lead large‑scale organizational change and build strong followership in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Exceptional facilitation and communication skills, including leading dynamic in‑person and remote sessions and tailoring delivery to diverse audiences.
  • Hands‑on experience facilitating Kaizen events using Lean Business System tools, delivering defined outcomes in 2–5‑day workshops.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach teams through structured problem‑solving methodologies and ensure sustainment of countermeasures with a strong action‑oriented approach.
  • Extensive experience in metric‑driven roles where continuous improvement is integral to business operations.
  • Strong organizational, project planning, scheduling, and risk‑management skills, with experience using project management tools.
  • Ability to provide critical review of CI/Lean content and actionable feedback to tool owners and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint), SAP knowledge, and strong analytical skills.
  • On‑site in Franklin Lakes, NJ; will require 25% travel.

  • International training and facilitation experience.

$160,900.00 - $265,400.00 USD Annual
