Director of Academic Affairs - Technical Programs
Summary:
The Director of Technical Programs will be fully dedicated to administrative and compliance tasks related to the academic programs of the Construction Department within Puerto Rico and Florida Operations.
The Director will be responsible for implementing strategic projects and standardized processes across academic units in Puerto Rico and Florida Operations that promote educational quality and professional training for students.
The Director will provide guidance and collaborate on the strategies and activities outlined at the Centers and Campuses in Puerto Rico and Florida Operations to meet effectiveness indicators and student learning outcomes, such as enrollment, retention, academic performance, graduation, licensure, and employability in construction programs.
Duties and responsibilities related to enrollment:
• Actively participate in the Work Plans and/or Marketing and Admissions Activities of the campuses/centers to expand and strengthen new student enrollment.
• Analyze, make recommendations, and advise management staff at all levels in determining strategies, projects, and activities that promote the selection and admission of students most likely to meet the academic requirements of construction programs.
• Collaborate in coordinating activities for incoming students and the academic orientation program.
• Participate in committees responsible for evaluating specialized content for the catalog, website, and promotional materials.
Duties and responsibilities related to educational processes and student retention (academic performance, development of professional competencies, retention, and graduation):
• Preparing and implementing induction and training programs for Program Directors, Coordinators, or Lead Instructors.
• Collaborate and participate in initiatives or efforts to identify faculty who meet the academic and hiring requirements of the degree programs.
• Design and coordinate the specialized faculty development plan for their programs.
• Implement and oversee the academic model and institutional assessment model to strengthen student academic performance and ensure that the majority of students pass their courses within the standard course duration.
• Actively participate in educational plans and/or strategies at the institutional and local levels to increase graduation rates within the standard program duration.
• Provide support and guidance to the Retention and Institutional Effectiveness Committees in the early identification of factors affecting student learning and retention, in developing strategies to address and intervene with underperforming student groups, and in ensuring faculty involvement in program improvement plans.
• Monitor and certify that laboratories comply with the educational (curricular) requirements of the programs and with the health and safety regulations and/or protocols required by local and federal agencies (if applicable).
Duties and responsibilities aimed at ensuring program employability:
• Directly oversee the implementation of the activities outlined and included in the Academic Integration Plan and the Professional Development Center.
• Participate in institutional plans and/or strategies to increase program employability rates.
• Participate in advisory meetings, job fairs, and other specialized activities that promote program compliance.
Education/Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in any discipline or,
• Diploma from an accredited institution in occupational fields such as Electrical, Refrigeration, Plumbing, and Construction, with a minimum of 5 years of significant work experience in supervisory or leadership roles.
Use of Spanish and English as a tool for oral and written communication and reading as a means of learning and socialization.
• Advanced proficiency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken.
