A financially strong nonprofit organization is hiring a Controller / Director of Finance to help build and shape the next phase of its growth. With an approximately $15M annual budget and consistent year‑over‑year momentum, this role offers the opportunity to go beyond steady‑state accounting and actively support expansion, development, and increased community footprint.

This is not a maintenance role. The organization is investing in new and renovated facilities, cultural and community spaces, and expanded operations, and this leader will play a central role in financially guiding that growth, bringing structure, discipline, and forward‑looking planning to initiatives already underway.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all accounting operations (GL, close, reporting, controls)
  • Own budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning during a growth phase
  • Support capital investments and expansion initiatives with thoughtful financial analysis
  • Strengthen processes and controls as the organization scales
  • Partner closely with executive leadership on strategy and execution
  • Lead and develop a lean, capable finance team
  • Prepare financial materials for leadership and board review

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Nonprofit / corporate blend background
  • Hands‑on, execution‑oriented finance leader comfortable operating in both tactical and strategic capacities
  • Comfortable supporting and working within a faith‑based mission
  • Able to work fully onsite on Chicago’s South Side
  • Competitive salary: $135,000-165,000 + bonus
