
Tax Director

Responsible for managing the Tax Function reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer. The responsibilities include the planning, implementation, administration and monitoring of the company’s overall tax strategy including the research of federal, state and local laws to ensure compliance and to achieve the best tax results consistent with the company’s general business plan. Responsible for oversight, administration and management of all income tax, property tax, and sales and use tax matters performed internally and by third parties. Responsible for subject matter advice and insights into company transactions, legal business structures and other tax-related issues.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be able to excel at the following:
- Responsible for tax accounting under ASC 740.
- Responsible for ensuring that all company tax returns are properly prepared, reviewed and filed.
- Responsible for tracking partner capital account balances under UP-C Structure.
- Responsible for the property tax process.
- Management of third‑party service providers assisting with various tax matters
- Providing technical tax assistance to senior management when required, including advising on corporate transactions and changes in legal structures.
- Monitoring tax law changes and assessing the impact of such changes.
- Working with outside tax consultants on material tax issues, when required.
- Representing the company in communications with various federal, state and local tax agencies.
- Participating in decisions and negotiations regarding resolution of any tax liabilities.
- Identifying and Implementing tax savings strategies.
- Participate in special projects and ad hoc requests as directed.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Tax preferred.
- BS in Accounting, Finance or Tax (or related discipline).
- CPA highly preferred.
- Oil and Gas experience required.
- 10+ years of progressive federal, state and local tax consulting and/or compliance experience.
- 5+ years of management experience.
- Experience with DE‑SPAC IPO with Up‑C Structure transactions is a significant plus.
- Experience with both LLC’s (taxed as partnerships) and C‑Corporations preferred.
- Broad knowledge of oil and gas related federal, state and local taxes including State Income/Franchise/Gross Receipts Tax, Credits and Incentives, Sales and Use Tax and Excise Tax.
Technical Skills
The successful candidate should be PROFICIENT in the following technologies:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Experience with oil and gas accounting software (for example, Enertia).
- Strong understanding of oil and gas industry and related accounting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
