This role serves as the Radiation Safety Officer for multiple radioactive material licenses and a cyclotron registration, providing technical leadership, regulatory interface, and subject‐matter expertise across all radiation protection activities. The position is intended for an experienced Radiation Protection professional and carries senior‐level program ownership responsibilities, including independent program administration, regulatory compliance assurance, and support of safe operations involving radioactive materials and radiation‐producing equipment.The Senior Radiation Protection Specialist will be responsible for oversight and implementation of Radiation Safety Program Management to include:* Serve as the Radiation Safety Officer for two Tennessee radioactive material licenses and one cyclotron registration.* Ensure compliance with applicable license conditions, permits, registrations, and regulatory requirements for radioactive materials, radiation-generating equipment, and sealed sources, including implementation of radiation protection policies, procedures, and operating instructions.* Oversee personnel dosimetry programs and review exposure records to ensure doses are maintained ALARA* Prepare and submit required reports, license applications, renewals, amendments, and notifications.* Lead and support regulatory inspections, audits, and corrective action responses.* Investigate radiation incidents, abnormal exposures, or contamination events and implement corrective actions.* Ensure required radiation surveys, leak tests, contamination monitoring, shielding evaluations, and calibration and maintenance of radiation detection equipment are performed in accordance with regulatory and program requirements.* Ensure radiation workers are properly trained, qualified, and authorized prior to working with radiation sources, and perform in-person and web-based radiation protection and EHS training for employees as needed.* Participate in the review and approval process for radioactive material licensing and distribution to authorized licensees, in coordination with regulatory and internal stakeholders.* Oversee radioactive waste handling, storage, shipment, and disposal in compliance with regulations.* Track trends, analyze data, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.* Become authorized as a registered inspector in Tennessee for Class VII, as required to support regulatory oversight responsibilities.**Required Qualifications:*** Bachelor’s degree in health physics, physics, radiation science, engineering, or a related field.* Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state radiation regulations* Demonstrated experience in applied radiation protection in a facility which handles unsealed radioactive material* Capable of independently administering the radiation safety program in accordance with regulatory requirements, license conditions, and organizational policies, with minimal day‐to‐day oversight from management* Exhibits strong program ownership, acting as the subject matter expert and trusted authority for radiation safety for the scope of activities.* Experience managing radiation safety programs.* Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.* Must be authorized to live and work within the US and be based near the corporate headquarters in Knoxville, Tennessee* Hybrid work arrangement with expected 2 days in office each week**Preferred Qualifications:*** Prior experience as a named Radiation Safety Officer on an NRC or Agreement State license.* Experience in cyclotron and unsealed byproduct material environments.* Familiarity with EHS management systems and cross-functional safety programs.**Who we are**: We are a team of more than 72,000 highly dedicated Healthineers in more than 70 countries.
