Position Title Mechanical Designer

Position Description Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract Mechanical Designer opportunity.

Job Responsibilities

Produce robust CAD models that facilitate fast‑paced design evolution and derivative creation that leverage advanced CAD modeling techniques and methodologies.

Develop and maintain highly complex mechanical designs; proactively seek out, research, and propose unique solutions; conduct trade studies to down‑select best option.

Use model configurations to support analysis needs, such as structural, neutronics, thermal‑hydraulic, radiological, safety, etc.

Document design progress, changes, and decisions via the company’s internal & external online collaboration workspaces.

Create supporting technical presentations, documents, and reports as needed.

Generate engineering drawings (layout, detail, interface control, general arrangement, etc.) per ASME 14.1 and Y14.5 standards.

Perform tolerance stack‑up calculations.

Check and review drawings for accuracy of information and conformance to ASME & company drafting standards via electronic redline process.

Ensure and maintain configuration control of models/drawings via the company’s product data and product life‑cycle management software.

Regularly review design‑group‑generated documents and propose improvements; proactively contribute to written guidance and standards development.

Job Qualifications

B.S. degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent and 3+ years of relevant experience.

CAD proficiency in SolidWorks.

Creative thinker with strong analytical/problem‑solving skills and ability to work multiple tasks concurrently with minimal direction.

Organized and detail‑oriented, with excellent writing and communication skills.

Demonstrated experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

Experience checking fabrication drawings.

Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).

Experience in Mechanical and Machine Design.

Experience using a product data management (PDM) system.

Experience working to quality standards such as ASME NQA‑1 or ISO 9001.

Nuclear design experience preferred, but not required.

Experience in oversight of supplier and subcontractor organizations in an engineering environment.

Experience testing complex mechanical components and equipment in high temperature and multi‑discipline integration.

Previous experience with nuclear mechanical components, nuclear reactor equipment, or similar design.

Proficient knowledge and experience with nuclear quality fabrication, construction, and lifecycle management processes.

Exceptional communication skills to integrate with geographically and organizationally diverse engineering teams.

Travel Required: 0‑15%.

Pay Rate Range: $37‑$74/hr (pay rates are approved based on candidate location, education, and experience)

Location: Bellevue, WA
