Overview:
System One is seeking a highly motivated
Mechanical Designer
to support the conceptual and preliminary design of advanced Generation IV nuclear reactors. This role focuses on creating structural and mechanical design solutions, 3D CAD models, and engineering drawings. Candidates must have strong experience in mechanical/structural design and drafting using a mainstream CAD system.
Responsibilities
Produce robust 3D CAD models that support fast-paced design changes and derivative configurations
Develop and maintain complex mechanical designs; research and propose innovative solutions
Support structural, neutronics, thermal-hydraulic, radiological, and safety analysis with model configurations
Document design progress, changes, and decisions in internal/external collaboration tools
Create technical presentations, reports, and supporting design documentation
Develop engineering drawings (layouts, details, interface control, GA drawings) per
ASME Y14.1 & Y14.5
Perform tolerance stack-up calculations
Check and review drawings for accuracy and compliance with ASME standards
Maintain configuration control of models/drawings through PDM/PLM tools
Participate in design reviews and contribute to process improvement and standards development
Qualifications
B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent
and
3+ years of relevant experience
Proficiency with
SolidWorks
CAD
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks with minimal direction
Excellent communication and technical writing skills
High degree of integrity, teamwork, and ownership
Demonstrated experience with
GD&T
Experience checking fabrication drawings
Background in
Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
and
Design for Assembly (DFA)
Mechanical and machine design experience
Experience using a
Product Data Management (PDM)
system preferred
Job Functions / Work Environment
Motor abilities: sitting/standing for extended periods, bending/stooping, gripping, fine motor control
Physical requirements: ability to safely lift up to 25 lbs
Repetitive work: prolonged
Special senses: visual and audio-focused work
Work environment: stairs, typing/keyboard use, standard office setting (>8 hrs/day)
Travel: 0–5%
