JOB OBJECTIVE
The Anchorage Chamber of Commerce is Alaska's largest, broad-based business organization serving nearly 800 members and their 50,000 employees. The Communications Manager is responsible for working collaboratively with the President/CEO and all staff to keep membership and the general public informed of all initiatives, programs, services and benefits, and to effectively promote the organization.
BASIC SKILL REQUIREMENTS
You bring an eye for detail, accuracy with the written word, and the ability to work under pressure and on deadline as part of a team. You are an excellent communicator, and bring practical experience drafting and delivering senior-level communications. You are mature, professional, self-aware, and responsive to editing and critiquing of work. A self-starter with a bias to action, and vision for communications tactics and content. Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in marketing, communications, graphic design, public relations, or a related field. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; expertise in one or more graphic design programs. Reports directly to the President & CEO.
A valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation to facilitate work away from the Anchorage Chamber’s usual place of business are necessary. Regular full-time shift expectations are Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m., however, the successful candidate must be flexible to accommodate events outside these hours, with advance notice, to support the organization after hours and/or select Saturdays.
JOB DUTIES
Create promotional materials and design content for all events and programs
Develop and manage all communications projects, including print, online, social and others
Weekly e-newsletters and email campaigns
Monthly report to the Board of Directors
Website content and updates
Solicit, create, and schedule "Make it Monday" forum topics and speakers
Draft scripts, speeches, press releases, op-eds, and public statements
Provide leadership to volunteer groups as a staff liaison
Create media proposals for events and programs, as well as pitch new ideas
Explore revenue generation ideas that enhance the organization’s bottom line
Conduct the annual Board of Directors elections
SUPPORT
Maintain awareness and understanding of all Anchorage Chamber events and programs
May serve as Anchorage Chamber representative on community boards and committees
Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings and monthly board meetings
Assist the team in regular event support
Collaborate with the team to create the overall annual strategic plan
Aid in cross‑training and support of staff, when appropriate
Streamline and modernize communication methodologies
Contribute in maintaining office and other common areas in a neat and orderly fashion
Other duties as assigned

Pay Range
Pay range $60K-$70K annually DOE, Exempt Salary Position
