DESCRIPTION Seeking a part-time assistant for a NYC-based author/independent scholar/theatre maker. We are looking for someone who is reliable, flexible, has facility with technology, and approaches both problem-solving & the creative process with ingenuity. The work is hybrid remote and in-person (working on the Upper West Side) and will be a mixture of a creative and personal assistant. The role will include limited travel for occasional out of town projects (US Passport a plus). And above all, we are looking for someone who loves (or has always wanted to love) Shakespeare, as much of the work is centered around the Bard. We create content for audiences at home as well as in-person performances & workshops in NYC, DC, in London, & around the UK. A willingness to think critically, creatively, – and occasionally culinarily! – is paramount. The ideal candidate will be organized, capable of prioritizing tasks and working independently, and enjoy working within a flexible schedule. This may include working occasional nights or weekends.
Responsibilities
Help create and maintain social media presence, strategy, and execute graphics, videos, and assets
Assist with email drafting and communication as needed
Assist with calendar and scheduling for the business and for personal matters (researching or booking travel, conference registration, doctors’ appointments, insurance, and other matters)
Assist with in-person events, talks, and workshops
Assist with academic research
Handle payment transaction associated with certain tasks as needed and assist with accurate record keeping
Assist with technology where able including light troubleshooting of windows-based devices, printers, gadgets, etc. (Note: There is a separate tech specialist, but first-round assistance is excellent)
Help maintain and organize home library and other simple household tasks and light errands
Handle personal and professional information with discernment and discretion
Requirements
High attention to detail and well-organized
Knowledge of social media practices and platforms (Instagram, bluesky, x, substack, etc.)
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Dropbox
Familiarity with Windows and Samsung operating systems a plus but not required
Knowledge of graphic art software or ability to learn (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Procreate, etc.)
Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of proofreading best practices a plus
Ability to accomplish light physical tasks
Willingness to accept and offer feedback and to pivot if necessary
Previous experience in a similar role a plus
Hours: 10-20 per week, growth of role possible
Salary: beginning at $20/hr based on experience
