Job Description As an Adapted PE Intervention Specialist, you will instruct and develop students with disabilities in gross and perceptual motor skills, physical fitness, flexibility, strength, balance, locomotion and special awareness through group and individual adapted instruction. You will lift, position and move students in a safe manner, according to in‑service training, using proper lifting techniques. You will lead students in group adapted games, exercises, problem solving and sports skills, teach basic water safety skills, swimming skills and personal hygiene awareness, instruct students in sportsmanship and teamwork, and maintain an environment conducive to learning and free from health and safety hazards. Other duties include, but are not limited to, instructing students in all areas of development including communication/use of AAC devices, fine motor, gross motor, adaptive skills, and vocational skills; providing 1:1 as well as group instruction; assisting students in basic living skills (e.g., personal hygiene, toileting, feeding, socialization, dressing, swimming, etc.) as necessary during the school day; preparing teaching materials and visual supports to assist in student learning; assessing students using appropriate assessment techniques in various program areas; gathering information from parents, professionals and student records; writing Evaluation Team Reports (ETR), Individual Education Programs (IEP), completing progress monitoring and reporting student progress; preparing and recording daily lesson plans to address student needs; submitting requests for materials as needed for instruction; recording data on daily activities, behavior programs for evaluation of students and revision of programs; recording attendance, seizure activities, toileting activities and behavior data. You will collaborate cooperatively with other staff, parents, caseworkers, family members, and medical personnel to achieve student goals and programming as identified by IEPs; facilitate communication with students through sign language, picture communication, and a total communication approach. You will give directions and model best practices to instructor assistants, and work to resolve student behavior concerns. You should promote and implement the mandates and goals of the Clermont County Board of DD in a professional, positive, and efficient manner. You must maintain a regular, punctual, and consistent work schedule. You may assist support staff with all transfers, lifts, and positioning of students in a safe manner. You might administer oral and topical medication(s) to students after receiving appropriate training and when delegated by a registered nurse.
Qualifications
Physical Education License issued by the Ohio Department of Education (Swim/Gym Instructor) and ODE Adaptive Physical Education Certification Endorsement or evidence of working towards completion.
Physically able to lift, carry, and position children in a safe manner; successfully pass a pre‑employment background check, a physical exam, and all registries based on statute.
