We’re looking for a social media manager to run the day‑to‑day execution and long‑term vision of our social pages helping to grow The Free Press audience across platforms.
This person should be obsessed with social media, following the latest trends and understanding what makes something go viral across copy, graphics, and video. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate strong proficiency in current events and the modern media ecosystem, understanding how to leverage a fast paced news cycle for virality and impact. Familiarity with/the ability to adapt to The Free Press brand/voice is essential.
What you’ll do:
Create and execute vision for The FP across platforms, building out and executing on long‑term social strategy and growth goals
Oversee all FP social channels day‑to‑day for performance, clarity, and quality
Own the posting schedule, staying tightly aligned with the editorial calendar and packaging stories for social in a way that actually performs (copy, graphics, video)
Manage/direct a small team to implement across platforms and content‑styles
Who you are:
5+ years managing social accounts, ideally for a news brand
Deep understanding of what works across platforms (X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook), with a proven track record of making content go viral
Demonstrated fluency in current events and the modern media ecosystem
Highly organized and reliable
Willing to work nights and weekends when needed
Willing to speak your mind and take ownership of big‑picture social strategy across editorial, video, events, and more.
Deep understanding/demonstrated ability to learn The Free Press’s singular brand, voice, and ethos
Strong communication skills as you’ll be coordinating across all teams and verticals at The Free Press
Some managerial experience is preferred
Competitive and hungry—you want The Free Press to win on social
What we’re looking for:
Someone who genuinely loves The Free Press and is excited about our mission
Strong instincts for headlines, hooks, and packaging
A sharp eye for visuals and brand consistency
Razor sharp copy‑writing, optimized for each social media platform
Experience with Canva and Adobe Premiere Pro
Comfortable making quick edits, cutting video, and building graphics in a high‑paced, high stakes media environment
Someone who can both execute and delegate when needed
Have experience and a hunger to use AI tools, learning from them to improve both tactical and strategic choices for the role
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Hiring Salary Range: $100,000.00 - 120,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York City, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job‑related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
