Sr. Social Media Producer

About the Role
We are looking for a senior social media producer to join CBS News and help optimize the largest stories of the day for social platforms. The role requires a hardworking journalist who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and has impeccable editorial judgment.
Responsibilities
Work with CBS News talent, including O&Os and affiliates, to script, record and produce original social content.
Act as a team leader, advising social media producers on story priorities, production techniques and best practices during day‑to‑day coverage, breaking news situations and special events.
Appear on‑screen in original social videos and/or record voice‑over tracks.
Produce and edit original video packages for CBS News’ various social media channels and the CBS News Streaming Network.
Develop strategy for social channels and optimise show content for social platforms.
Utilise analytics to inform strategy and experimentation.
Create bespoke social content with talent, either as standalone pieces or to preview segments on the show.
Generate innovative and creative ideas to drive tune‑in and grow audience on social.
Senior produce other producers’ video packages and scripts.
Perform the role of a senior producer on original production shoots on site.
Provide supervisory coverage when necessary.
Compose social headlines, articles and share language that are highly shareable and consistent with the CBS News brand.
Backfill other team members as needed.
Qualifications
6 to 8 years of social media or newsroom experience.
Deep familiarity with social media platforms, audiences, and best practices.
Ability to write about a variety of topics in a strong, unbiased way.
Strong writing skills with a demonstrated portfolio of published work.
Strong producing and editing skills.
Ability to subtitle video for social quickly and accurately, using editing platforms and the text tools within TikTok and Instagram.
Ability to work well with others under tight deadlines.
Degree in journalism, communications or related field.
Schedule Monday‑Friday from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. ET.
Compensation and Benefits
Hiring salary range: $112,000.00 – $112,000.00 (adjusted for location).
