Civil Lead Designer

Job Summary
In this role, you will collaborate to plan, develop, coordinate, and review project civil design work. You will produce drawings, facilitate discussions, communicate complex technical issues, and prepare civil design estimates and work plan. Your recommendations will ensure designs and work plans are in accordance with project scope, schedule, budget, regulations, and standards.

Work location: Houston, TX; Chandler, AZ; Reston, VA.

This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor.

Major Responsibilities

Lead the work of civil designers and drafters for a project, including preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2‑D and 3‑D CAD design models and construction drawings.

Develop designs for complete and complex civil engineering systems (earthwork, drainage and road design) with minimum supervision, from which detailed scale models and/or construction drawings are completed.

Assist in constructing detailed scale models.

Prepare or assist with preparation of assigned material requisitions and bid evaluations.

Monitor and check work for compliance with approved civil design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation and construction economy.

Participate in constructability reviews.

Prepare design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort.

Coordinate or make job‑site visits as required to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents.

Review civil design scope changes, as required, for project management.

Ensure civil systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.

Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 10‑13 years of relevant experience, or 14‑17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Experienced in 3‑D modelling of site earthworks, drainage, roads, etc.

Expert in use of civil model software such as Civil3D and/or OpenRoads Designer.

Experience with preparing quantity take‑offs of civil materials.
