Summary

As part of a research project on U.S. election advertising, the research assistant(s) hired for this position will watch and read storyboards of partisan political advertisements aired on television during the 2020 presidential election, identify specific content in each advertisement, and enter details into an Excel spreadsheet following specific rules that will be explained as part of the training. The RA will learn research methods and coding processes for televised political advertising, focusing on Latino‑targeted ads. Candidates should have extensive cultural familiarity with the Latino community and be fluent in Spanish.

Essential Functions

Watch and read storyboards of partisan political advertisements aired on television during the 2020 presidential election.

Identify specific content in each advertisement.

Enter details about this content for every advertisement into an Excel spreadsheet following specific rules that will be explained as part of the training for this position.

Other duties assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work

Part-time.

10 hours per week.

Salary Range

$18.00 per hour.

Required Education And Experience

Currently an undergraduate/graduate student at AU.

No prior work experience required.

Available for at least 10 hours each week from now until approx. May 31st.

Spanish-language fluency (many of the ads are entirely in Spanish).

Cultural familiarity with the Latino community.

Independent, self-motivated, and excellent work ethic.

Careful attention to detail.

Basic familiarity with data entry.

Access to a personal computer with reliable Internet access.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

All AU students are eligible; preference for those with a Federal Work Study award.
