Job Title: Mechanical Designer
Location: Bellevue, WA
Type: Contract
Compensation: $37.00 - $74.00 per hour
Contractor Work Model: Hybrid – onsite and remote
Hours: 40.0 hours/week
Responsibilities
Develop 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings for mechanical and structural systems supporting advanced nuclear reactor projects.
Create and review test fixtures, rigs, flow loops, and sub-scale test articles for testing and analysis.
Perform tolerance stack-ups, ensure designs meet ASME standards, and conduct trade studies to identify optimal solutions.
Support structural, thermal, neutronic, radiological, and safety analyses through model configurations.
Maintain configuration control of models and drawings using PDM/PLM systems.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, review design documents, and prepare technical presentations and reports.
Create engineering drawings in compliance with ASME standards and check drawings for accuracy and conformance.
Requirements
B.S. degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or related field with 3+ years of relevant experience.
Proficiency in SolidWorks with a minimum of 7 years CAD experience.
Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
Experience creating and reviewing fabrication drawings and in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work multiple tasks independently.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience working with PDM/PLM systems preferred.
Knowledge of nuclear industry standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001 highly desirable.
Experience overseeing suppliers and subcontractors in an engineering environment.
Previous work with nuclear equipment, reactor components, or similar highly regulated environments preferred.
