Senior Paralegal
in the
Milwaukee, WI DOJ
office. The role provides extensive paralegal support to the U.S. Department of Justice, assisting in the preparation of complex legal documents, litigation support, and case management.
Typical Assignments
Prepares a variety of technically complex legal documents—including arrest warrants, summonses, true bills, motions, orders, non‑disclosure applications, plea agreements, grand jury and trial subpoenas, and legal memoranda—based on limited instructions from AUSAs.
Assists litigation teams in trial preparation by evaluating, assembling, and organizing documents, data, exhibits, and evidence for grand jury presentations, hearings, trials, and witness interviews; manages audio/video conversion, editing, PowerPoint presentations, PDF portfolios, spreadsheets, binders, exhibits, charts, witness lists, and jury instructions.
Provides advanced automated litigation support and case management to AUSAs using software such as Relativity, Cellebrite, Axiom, eZManage, NetDocs, iPro Eclipse, Everlaw, CaseMap, TimeMap, Trial Director, USAfx, and SecureZip.
Performs moderately complex specialized legal research to verify citations, statutory references, legislative intent, judicial precedents, and agency rules related to assigned cases.
Writes preliminary drafts of simple legal memoranda and correspondence, ensuring conformity with local court rules and style guidelines.
Assists with incoming discovery, determines responsiveness and appropriate format, screens for privileged documents, resolves identified issues, and communicates status to litigation teams.
Compiles outgoing discovery in compliance with the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure and related stipulations, criteria, and court orders for depositions and hearings.
Uses a variety of software applications to search and retrieve necessary information, including internal case management databases, shared file networks, and external court record sources; synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use while maintaining proper security over litigation support materials.
Performs docketing duties, tracking case filings, generating reports, and analyzing system data to determine case status and reconcile inconsistencies.
Answers external inquiries that do not require legal interpretations, exercising judgment and discretion in determining information provided to telephone inquiries and visitors.
Pay $28.85 per hour.
Basic Qualifications
Paralegal certificate, Juris Doctorate, or current attendance in an ABA‑accredited law school with at least one year of study, or an equivalent level of legal training or experience.
Minimum 2 years of litigation paralegal or related project experience.
At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.
Sound knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and resources.
Thorough knowledge of research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
Hands‑on familiarity with a variety of computer applications—including word processing, database/file management systems, spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
Hands‑on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
U.S. Citizen eligible for a Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a Government and/or Litigation Support environment.
Trial experience.
Experience with Relativity or similar applications.
Current or active security clearance.
