The school is supported by more than 55,000 engaged alumni and a collaborative community of faculty and staff dedicated to advancing business education, research, and student success.**About this Opportunity**Reporting to the Sr. Director of HR Operations, the Assistant Director, Human Resources for the Foster School of Business carries out professional level administrative management responsibilities to enable accurate, efficient, and comprehensive HR activities across the Foster School community. This position provides professional expertise in a comprehensive range of HR responsibilities and provides HR advice to supervisors and leaders.This position is responsible for developing, improving, and managing central human resources programs and systems within the Foster School. The Assistant Director, Human Resources will use independent judgement to evaluate the systems and programs currently in place, then develop, implement, and manage solutions which enable the fulfillment of complex faculty, staff, and student organizational needs. This position works with multiple levels of faculty and staff within the unit to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of information to facilitate important organizational decisions and actions.
This position’s ability to respond to emerging needs, develop solutions, make improvements, and manage work directly contributes to the success of the Foster School.**Key Responsibilities**Recruitment & Hiring (25%)* Manage the recruitment and hiring of staff in partnership with campus recruitment partners and hiring managers. Support the development of position descriptions; conduct compensation analyses and reviews in partnership with the Sr. HR Director, unit leaders, and central HR Compensation Office.* Provide guidance to hiring units for recruitment, interviewing, and selecting candidates; participate in the hiring process as needed or requested.* Manage personnel requests for position reviews; review, analyze, and approve position reviews, in-grade salary increases, temporary pay, and other compensation actions.
Provide recommendations to the Sr. HR Director as needed.* Work with hiring units regarding job classifications (workforce planning), position responsibilities, and salary ranges. Assist with the development of position descriptions, both classified and professional staff positions.* Submit and manage the necessary Workday transactions to facilitate all aspects of recruitment, hiring, compensation, time and absence, position management, and termination.HR Operations Support (25%)* Submit and manage the necessary Workday transactions to facilitate all aspects of recruitment, hiring, compensation, position management, and termination. Review and approve Workday requests.* Ensure the correct business processes and timelines are followed according to the expectations of payroll, central campus, and the School and departments. Maintain a thorough understanding of Workday transactions and functionality, including initiation, approvals, process-flows, downstream impacts, and business consequences.* Develop and maintain the Foster HR web content for the external Foster website and the internal intranet site. Create content objectives and a project plan that delivers updated information, and is consistent with other Foster School and UW sites and policies.* Responsible for the development, delivery, and overall success of the Foster onboarding and off boarding programs. Harmonize Foster’s on/off boarding to compliment UW-wide programs.* Responsible for the management and maintenance of the Foster HR file systems for staff. Review and ensure accuracy and completeness of human resource documents and the filing of employment forms, job search files, and other forms/paperwork (required trainings, telework and professionalism policy), maintaining strict confidentiality and using UW file retention schedules.Foster Programs and Annual Events (20%)Lead unit-specific programs or initiatives that enhance the Foster community, employee experience or assist Foster in participating in UW-wide events or requirements, including:* Staff Excellence Awards* Emerging Leader Award* UW Combined Fund Drive (UWCFD)* Dean’s Budget Approvals* Annual Hazing Prevention Training ComplianceFoster-specific professional development and wellness programs (20%):* Provide leadership and oversight for two subcommittees dedicated to advancing employee professional development, community engagement, and wellness initiatives. This program is sponsored by the Dean’s Office and includes allocated budgetary support.* Direct and coordinate the work of the two subcommittees to ensure alignment with program objectives and the strategic priorities of the Foster School.* Manage the program budget, including regular review, reconciliation, forecasting, and financial planning to support events, trainings, and professional development opportunities.* Establish annual goals, benchmarks, and performance measures to guide program growth and assess impact.* Oversee the successful planning and execution of recurring events and initiatives, including Faculty and Staff Summer Celebration; Winter Celebration; Monthly Foster community mixers; and monthly professional development sessions.Employee/Labor Relations (5%)* Employee relations: In partnership with the Foster HR Director, provide employee relations support and resources to managers and staff, work with UW HR Campus Partners when appropriate. Included but not limited to performance management, complaint resolution, and performance reviews.* Management-Labor Relations: In partnership with the Foster HR Director, stay apprised of labor contract agreements to provide information and guidance to supervisors and managers to ensure consistent application of contract terms and conditions.Special Projects and Other Duties (5%):* Provide services as requested with special projects and other duties as needed by the School and Department.* Attend professional and personal development opportunities for identified needs.* May supervise or lead student employees, providing leadership, training, and mentorship.**Required Qualifications**To be considered for this opportunity your application must demonstrate you meet both the minimum qualifications and additional qualifications listed below.
