Communications and Content Manager: Franklin College of Arts and Sciences Position Summary: The Communications and Content Manager is a creative, strategic leader responsible for shaping and sharing the story of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. This role centers on executing a dynamic content strategy focused on digital that communicates the College’s mission, academic excellence, and community impact to a wide range of external and internal audiences, including academic peers, prospective and current students and parents, faculty, alumni, donors, and the broader public, including local, state, and federal government entities.

With a strong emphasis on digital content creation, the manager produces compelling written, visual, and multimedia materials, such as short‑form videos, email and website marketing, and content for social media channels, that highlight the College’s exceptional and diverse programs, research, scholarship, and creative output, and its people, including alumni, students, faculty, and staff. The role requires a deep understanding of how to tailor messaging across channels and audiences, ensuring clarity, relevance, engagement, and broad appeal.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 8 years of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations, or a related field.

5+ years professional experience in communications, content creation, or related field.

Exceptional writing and editing skills.

Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, academic environment.

Strong understanding of audience segmentation and comprehensive communication practices.

Demonstrated familiarity with a range of communications principles including messaging, writing, editing, graphic design, visual communications, branding, marketing, advertising, electronic communications, social media, and generative AI tools.

Ability to communicate technical content to a general audience and a variety of stakeholders.

Experience working with business/industry, alumni engagement, and development initiatives.

Experience in a higher education, independent school, or nonprofit environment.

Strong skills using technology in the workplace, familiarity with content management systems and email platforms; social media competencies.

Significant prior communications experience writing and producing publications and developing and placing stories.

Duties & Responsibilities

Execution of a comprehensive content strategy focused on digital channels, particularly for the college website and its content bank, supporting the College’s mission and strategic priorities. Includes creating engaging and high‑quality content for dissemination across digital and traditional marketing platforms (websites, print, newsletters, and social media channels).

Write, shoot, edit videos; produce print and/or digital faculty, student, and alumni profiles, informational web content and marketing materials that showcase the College’s faculty, students, academic and research strengths, and community impact.

Support communication efforts that foster recognition and connection among faculty, staff, and students.

Collaborate closely with academic departments, development and alumni relations, the office of information technology, student academic services, government relations, and student ambassadors to ensure content messaging is aligned, timely, and effective.

Work with department heads, school and institute directors, and individual faculty to ensure they are supported and represented.

Engage with vendors/agency partners as needed.

Present to various stakeholders as necessary.

Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Demands

Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling; spending long periods of time at a computer.

Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 25 pounds.

Occasional evening or weekend work requirements based on events and activities of the College.
