POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Municipal Court, the Deputy Court Clerk will perform a broad range of clerical duties related to court activities in compliance with state/local laws and city policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. Performs general Municipal Court functions, including scheduling hearings, arraignments, pre-trials, judge and jury trials

Enters citations, case activity, and other data into the Court computer system, including but not limited to, pleas, convictions, case status, dismissals, and other orders as set by the judge

Demonstrate basic knowledge of Texas statutes governing the administration and operation of a Texas Municipal Court with the ability to respond to inquiries in person, by phone or in writing

Collects fines and fees, issues receipts balance daily collections and prepares daily deposits; must be bondable.

Maintains accurate, updated, timely and organized paperwork, dockets, warrants, and collections processed by the court.

Possess knowledge of the operations and maintenance of the court computer system, online payment systems, security protocols and links to state agencies and other court resources.

Prepare summons for jurors, witnesses and officer subpoenas

Contributes to the overall success of the Department by performing other essential duties as assigned

Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

Subject to 24-hour recall: The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work overtime including during emergency situations (defined as any natural or man-made disaster that may or may not necessitate the relocation of City personnel or citizens). In the event of an emergency and/or a required evacuation, the incumbent may be required to remain at work to provide needed services or perform essential duties for the benefit of the general public including services or duties different from those performed in the normal course and scope of the position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: To perform in this position successfully, an individual(s) must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Knowledge of general office duties such as filing, typing, computer input, mathematical calculations, and telephone operations.

Skill in resolving customer complaints and concerns.

Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Maintain confidentiality of information.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING (Certification/Licensure): High School diploma, GED or equivalent, and three (3) years of administrative/clerical experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Municipal Court clerical experience preferred. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Must be eligible to obtain Notary Public. The City reserves the right to allow substitutions in the event that a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another.

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Positions in this class typically require: climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires the exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
