Customer Service Representative

This position is remote. If you are within commutable distance to the office at 43 Whiting Hill Rd Brewer, Maine 04412, you will have flexibility to work remotely while taking on challenging tasks.

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position. Employees need flexibility to work any 8‑hour shift during normal business hours of 8:00 am – 4:30 pm EST. Overtime may be required based on business needs.

We offer 12 weeks of paid on‑the‑job training, conducted onsite during normal business hours.

Primary Responsibilities

Actively participate in team huddles and meetings by sharing knowledge, requesting information, and recommending process improvements.

Provide excellent customer service via first‑call resolution as frequently as possible.

Advocate for patients regarding complaints or billing issues within department policies and procedures.

Advise management of customer service issues that may require timely attention.

Resolve assigned accounts accurately and timely to maximize reimbursement in compliance with policy.

Research and accurately resolve outstanding patient balances in accordance with all departmental and system policies and procedures.

Meet or exceed NLH performance standards related to quality and productivity.

Accurately schedule patient payment plans in accordance with internal policy guidelines.

Work closely with peers and leaders to address patient balance issues or changes that directly impact accounts receivable.

Ensure all functions related to customer service support team goals, objectives, and NLH financial performance objectives.

Thoroughly understand the department's key performance indicators.

Advise management of payment variance issues that may require timely attention.

Maintain knowledge of collection protocols, payer, regulatory policies and laws.

Attend internal education sessions to enhance or gain new skills.

Demonstrate departmental desire to provide community benefits through charitable events or contributions outside the department.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma / GED.

Must be 18 years of age or older.

1+ years of customer service experience in healthcare, insurance, government, social services, or human services settings.

1+ years of data entry experience.

Basic proficiency with Windows PC applications and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Ability to train onsite for the first 12 weeks at 43 Whiting Hill Rd Brewer, Maine 04412.

Ability to provide onsite coverage at 489 State Street, Bangor, ME, based on business needs.

vaccination is an essential job function. Candidates located in states that mandate a Flu booster dose must also comply. Proof of vaccination, and boosters when applicable, will be obtained prior to employment.

Ability to work full‑time (40 hours/week) Monday‑Friday with flexibility for 8‑hour shifts during 8:00 am – 4:30 pm EST. Overtime may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

1+ years of experience in healthcare customer service.

Work experience with Northern Light Health.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Reside within commutable distance to the office at 43 Whiting Hill Rd Brewer, Maine 04412.

Maintain a dedicated secure work area, separated from other living spaces, ensuring information privacy.

Live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group‑approved high‑speed internet connection or use an existing high‑speed service.

Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable).

Pay is based on local labor markets, education, experience, certifications, and other factors. The hourly rate ranges from $16.15 to $28.80 per hour for full‑time employment.
