Job Description
Join the team of a multinational Wind Turbine Manufacturer in either Melbourne, VIC or Sydney, NSW for a 6 to 8 months contract as a Wind Turbine Blade Engineer. An exciting 6‑8 months contract role starting as soon as possible, working Mon‑Fri regular hours, this position will be office‑based or home‑based, with occasional site visits to several wind farms in VIC & NSW. Transport and accommodation provided for the site days.
Responsibilities
Assess & analyse existing blade failure modes
Evaluate the criticality of each failure mode in terms of damage propagation and risk of catastrophic failure
Develop new or amend existing work instructions for blade repairs to be used on site
Knowledge of the different blade types, integral, spar/shell and web blades
Perform blade repair reports quality review
Support of root cause analysis and corrective action for blade damages and failures
Support of repair crews while performing complex repairs
Evaluate quality of blade repairs done by contractors
Develop & improve existing inspection, maintenance and repair processes.
Monitor & report blade failure rates using reliability methodology
Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Materials, Composite Engineering or related. Masters degree will be a plus.
2-5 years overall experience in operations and/or maintenance of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems, with at least 1 year in Wind Energy, focused on Composites.
Demonstrated experience in blade damage assessment & experience with a wind turbine Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) is highly recommended.
Possess the core competencies required to access, assess, and inspect significant structural (CAT III and above) blade damage.
