Job Summary Provides administrative and clinical supervision of the Behavioral Health department and provides clinical behavioral health care.
Responsibilities and Duties
Leads the operations of the Behavioral Health department
Collaborates with senior leadership to develop and implement the goals and objectives of the Behavioral Health department
Participates in marketing, education and recruitment activities as needed
Collaborates with the medical and dental divisions to promote health care services integration
Represents the Behavioral Health department at sites visits as needed
Provides supervision, support, consultation, and training for Behavioral Health staff
Oversees services provided by Medical Family Therapists, including clinical quality, patient experience and performance
Establishes performance standards and assesses clinical performance on an ongoing basis
Establishes and maintains documentation of clinical protocols, policies, and procedures
Ensures that new behavioral health practitioners receive adequate training to support skill developments in all domains of core clinical competencies (i.e., clinical skills, consultation, documentation, teamwork and administrative skills)
Ensures compliance with discipline specific code of ethics; federal, state, and local laws, regulations and organization policies and procedures
Assists in the training and guidance of use of the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
Implements screening assessments and corroborates adherence to screening standards
Provides behavioral health services
Conducts traditional therapy appointments with the therapeutic interventions in accordance with established departmental procedures
Collaborates with medical practitioners and clinical support staff to identify patients’ mental health needs and ensure the integration of mental health services into their overall healthcare plan
Participates in case-consultations and team meetings to share insight and enhance overall patient care
Provides brief integrated behavioral healthcare services to patients during medical appointments
Develops treatment plans tailored to each patient’s specific needs in accordance with established departmental procedures
Fosters a collaborative relationship and facilitates communication with the clinical team to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in patient care
Adheres to established scheduling templates in provision of patient care
Oversees Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) clinical integration, care quality, and practitioner performance
Implements evidence-based clinical protocols related to whole-person wellness, health coaching, and behavioral health integration
Promotes whole-person, culturally competent care consistent with equity standards
Leads integration of behavioral health and enabling services within primary care teams
Implements interdisciplinary care planning and documentation for high-risk patients, such as huddles, case conferences and care plans
Directs case management interventions and resources to support patients experiencing social drivers of health (SDOH) needs
Develops and monitors workflows ensuring patients have timely access to behavioral health and enabling services
Participates in quality metrics directives and departmental quality improvement (QI) projects
Maintains current knowledge of quality initiatives by regularly attending the clinical and practice meetings and reviewing internal communications and resources
Completes peer review
Complies with Clinical Quality Measures expectations
Modifies workflows as determined by department to attain QI objectives
Consistently documents activities related to QI objectives.
Provides education and training to clinical team to foster integration of services
Provides overall management and direction to departmental staff
Oversees the development and maintenance of the departmental budget; monitors ongoing budgetary compliance and addresses problems as needed
Delegates departmental duties and responsibilities; participates in high priority special projects and activities
Represents the department at all senior management meetings
Prepares departmental company policies and procedures and conveys all senior management communications and directives
Qualifications and Skills Master Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Therapy. Possesses advanced knowledge of program, organization, federal, state, and third-party regulations relating to behavioral health care. Current professional licensure in good standing with the North Carolina Board of the appropriate discipline of clinical practice. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
