Control Panel Wireman – Role Overview
We are working exclusively with a well-established engineering business who are looking to add an experienced
Control Panel Wireman
to their panel shop in Northampton.
This is a
hands-on, workshop-based position
producing
fully bespoke BMS control panels . Every build is different – there is no repetitive production work or standard “off-the-shelf” panels. The successful candidate must be confident hitting the ground running and working independently from schematic drawings.
This role would suit a
time-served Panel Wireman
who takes pride in quality, accuracy, and professional workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
Build and wire
bespoke BMS control panels
from electrical schematic drawings
Complete full panel builds including:
Back plate and door layout
Mounting electrical components
Wiring, dressing, and terminating to specification
Work on a variety of panel types including:
Wall-mounted panels (single and multi-cabinet)
Floor-standing panels
Box build assemblies
Carry out quality checks and panel testing to ensure compliance
Use hand tools, power tools, and test equipment safely and correctly
Maintain a clean, organised working area and ‘zero defects’ approach
Liaise with engineers where drawings require clarification
Assist with occasional modifications or improvements

Skills & Experience Required
Minimum 5 years’ experience
as a Control Panel Wireman
Strong experience wiring
bespoke control panels
(not just production-line work)
Ability to read and interpret
complex electrical schematics
Competent in:
Stripping and crimping cables
Trunking, terminals, relays, contactors, MCBs/fuses
Professional wiring standards and torque settings
Electrically qualified or electrically trained background
Confident working independently and to deadlines
English as a first language is essential
due to documentation and communication
Desirable (but not essential)
Previous
BMS or HVAC control panel
experience
Quality control or testing exposure
Busbar knowledge
Personal Attributes
Reliable, punctual, and professional
Comfortable working in a
hands-on, workshop-led environment
Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
Able to integrate into an established, male-dominated engineering team
Physically capable of workshop-based work
