The Assistant Director of Life Enrichment supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of meaningful recreational, social, and therapeutic activities for residents in a long-term care setting. This role helps ensure programs enhance residents’ quality of life, promote engagement, and meet regulatory requirements.
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or Activity Director Certification (per state requirements) preferred
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Key Responsibilities
Assist in developing and implementing a comprehensive life enrichment program tailored to residents’ interests, abilities, and needs
Coordinate daily activities including group events, one-on-one interactions, and special programs
Support completion of resident assessments and individualized activity care plans
Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations
Supervise and support activity staff, volunteers, and interns as assigned
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members (nursing, therapy, social services)
Assist in organizing community outings, entertainment, and special events
Ensure availability and proper use of activity supplies and equipment
Promote resident participation and engagement, including those with cognitive or physical limitations
Step in for the Director of Life Enrichment in their absence
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in recreation therapy, gerontology, or related field preferred
Experience in long-term care, senior living, or recreational programming preferred
Knowledge of dementia care and person-centered programming
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
