WordPress Developer
is responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing the organization’s WordPress website and related web platforms. This role ensures the website is functional, secure, user-friendly, and aligned with organizational goals, while supporting content, marketing, and program initiatives. Operating at the intersection of
web development, user experience, and platform performance , this role is critical to maintaining a strong digital presence and ensuring the website effectively supports engagement and growth. Key Responsibilities Website Development & Maintenance
Develop and maintain the WordPress website Implement new pages, features, and updates Ensure overall site functionality and reliability
Theme & Plugin Management
Configure and customize WordPress themes Install, update, and manage plugins Ensure compatibility and performance
Performance Optimization
Optimize website speed and performance Improve load times and responsiveness Monitor and address performance issues
Website Security & Stability
Implement and maintain security best practices Monitor for vulnerabilities and risks Ensure site stability and uptime
Content & CMS Support
Support content updates and page creation Ensure proper formatting and structure Enable non-technical users to manage content
UX/UI Implementation
Implement design updates and improvements Ensure user-friendly navigation and experience Align website structure with user needs
SEO & Technical Optimization
Support SEO best practices, including: Site structure Metadata Page performance Improve search visibility
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work with: Marketing (content and campaigns) Programs (site updates for initiatives) Technology teams Ensure website supports organizational needs
Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution
Identify and resolve technical issues Debug errors and fix broken functionality Maintain consistent site performance
Documentation & System Organization
Maintain documentation for: Website structure Plugins and tools Processes and workflows
Platform Improvements & Enhancements
Recommend improvements to: Functionality Performance User experience Support scaling of the platform
Continuous Improvement
Stay current with WordPress updates and best practices Improve development processes Enhance overall website effectiveness
Volunteer Commitment Expectations Estimated Commitment:
10-15 hours per week Flexible schedule Participation in technology or project meetings required Fully remote
Minimum Qualifications 2–4 years of experience with: WordPress development Website management Strong understanding of: Themes and plugins Website structure and CMS functionality
Preferred Qualifications Experience with: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and/or PHP SEO and performance optimization tools Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations Experience in remote teams
