The Manager, Sales Tax Compliance, is responsible for leading client engagements related to sales and use tax compliance and advisory services within a public accounting environment. This role combines technical expertise, client relationship management, and team leadership. The ideal candidate brings deep sales tax experience, strong project management skills, and the ability to mentor staff while delivering high-quality client service in a fast-paced, remote-oriented firm setting.
Position Responsibilities:
Manage the full sales and use tax compliance lifecycle for multiple clients, including planning, preparation, review, and timely filing of state and local sales tax returns
Oversee and review workpapers and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on sales tax matters, providing guidance and resolving complex issues
Correspond with state and local tax authorities to respond to notices and resolve client inquiries
Supervise, train, and mentor staff and seniors, including delegation of work, review, and performance feedback
Coordinate engagement timelines, manage workflow, and ensure deadlines are met across multiple projects
Collaborate with firm leadership on process improvements, technology utilization, and best practices
Maintain individual production responsibilities while fostering a collaborative, team-oriented environment
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
7+ years of progressive experience in sales and use tax compliance
Public accounting or tax advisory firm experience required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
Strong understanding of multi-state sales and use tax issues
Experience managing multiple client engagements simultaneously
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients
Strong organizational and project management skills
Ability to work independently with a high level of accountability and ownership
Data-conscious mindset with an interest in systems, process efficiency, and data integrity
Positive, solutions-oriented approach with a growth mindset and adaptability to change
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, remote team environment
$98,500 - $160,000 a year The salary range for this opportunity is stated above. As such, an actual salary may fall closer to one or the other end of the range, and in certain circumstances, may wind up being outside of the listed salary range.
