Summary The Senior Vice President (SVP)/ Head of Commercial Lending serves as the backbone and visionary for the Commercial Lending department. This incoming leader will have direct oversight of the lending team, credit administration, and supporting functions. Will drive business strategies and growth, assess and minimize risk, and ensure strict compliance with policies and regulatory requirements. As Seamen’s Bank strives to be the quintessential community institution, the SVP/Head of Commercial Lending will serve as a community ambassador for the Bank.

The SVP/Head of Commercial Lending will play a critical role in defining how commercial lending is structured, developed, and grown. S/he will have the ability to map and pivot based on long‑term goals, while remaining tuned in to the details that make commercial lending challenging and rewarding.

Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities Leadership, Management & Talent Development

Lead, build, and align commercial lending team

Identify succession plans and strengthen leadership bench

Drive consistent production, underwriting discipline, and client experience

Handle daily operations, including administrative needs and addressing staff issues and performance

Participate and serve as contributor for various committees specific to commercial lending and Bank‑wide initiatives

Establish realistic operating processes and departmental standards that foster the Bank’s culture of accountability and collaboration

Strategy, Financial Performance, & Operations

Drive commercial loan growth, profitability, and asset quality

Expand relationships and widen commercial reach beyond the Outer Cape

Contribute to overall budgeting, forecasting, and long‑term strategic planning

Develop and lead operational initiatives to standardize processes to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and operational excellence

Credit Administration & Risk Oversight

Oversee underwriting, credit policy, approval processes, and portfolio management

Ensure consistency in credit standards, risk ratings, and documentation

Partner with credit team on risk mitigation and asset strategies

Regulatory & Compliance

Ensure adherence to all banking regulations and supervisory expectations

Partner with audit and compliance functions

Lead regulatory exam preparation and response efforts

Maintain strong relationships with regulatory agencies

Proven ability to set strategy, drive performance, and develop high‑performing, willing teams who will develop a natural appetite to bring new business and revenue growth

Demonstrated ability to originate, structure, and close complex commercial credit transactions

Success as a senior manager and trusted advisor to both team and customers

Large capacity to optimize operations and platforms and improve standardized workflows

Highly skilled at collaborating across departments to offer comprehensive family of products and solutions and to achieve Bank goals

Regulatory, Compliance & Credit Risk Management

Expertise in credit risk management, including underwriting standards, risk rating systems, and portfolio monitoring

Proven ability to enforce disciplined credit practices while balancing growth and risk across portfolio

Comprehensive understanding of banking regulations, with a proven track record of successfully managing regulatory exams, audit processes, and compliance matters

Handle reconciliations, exceptions analysis, and produce necessary reporting such as Communications/Observations, Insider Loan, Sales Transactions, etc.

Desire to partner cross‑functionally to remediate findings and strengthen internal controls

Other Requirements

Preferred 8+ years of progressive banking experience, with extensive commercial lending expertise

3+ years with commercial lending software, such as Abrigo

Proven leadership experience overseeing credit administration and lending operations

Strong knowledge of commercial credit, underwriting, and portfolio management

Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and supervisory expectations

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related field; MBA or equivalent preferred

Exceptional leadership, communication, and decision‑making skills

Full‑time, Exempt

Hybrid work arrangement possible.

$200,000 - $300,000 annually
