Position Summary

Director of Biostatistics is a member of a cross‑functional team and contributes to the development of compounds within a therapeutic area. Drives design of innovative and efficient clinical trials, including selection of study populations and endpoints. Develops trial designs that support regulatory approval and market access, and contributes to Clinical Development Plans, submissions, and post‑submission strategies. Provides guidance and management to statisticians to ensure high‑quality, timely deliverables, manages resources, sets priorities, and maintains consistency with standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive innovative and efficient study design, developing study designs that support regulatory approval, medical research, and market access.
  • Lead, initiate, and oversee statistical support for the development of compounds within a therapeutic area.
  • Guide and manage statisticians to ensure high‑quality and timely deliverables.
  • Act as a matrix team member, providing scientific and strategic partnership in drug development.
  • Present and defend complex statistical solutions to all levels of governance, stakeholders, and external regulatory bodies.
  • Contribute to Clinical Development Plans, lead GBDS-related submission activities, and manage post‑submission strategies.
  • Provide statistical support for health authority requests, publications, presentations, and other public releases.
  • Maintain compliance with BMS processes and SOPs, ensuring adherence to global and project standards.
  • Create and maintain departmental SOPs, providing training on statistical topics.
  • Manage a functional or project budget, allocate resources, set priorities, and ensure consistency with standards.
  • Represent BMS at professional societies and in industry‑wide technical discussions.
  • Support the statistical community of practice and coach biostatistical team members.
  • Communicate the GBDS Mission and Vision in a manner that inspires pride, excitement, and commitment.
  • Promote a culture of inclusiveness, respect for diversity, compliance, and constructive dialogue.

Applicable to People Managers

  • Engage as an employee advocate and management coach/mentor to team members.
  • Provide leadership to empower and develop the team.
  • Guide employee development plans, conduct performance reviews and feedback, and develop performance metrics.

Qualifications & Experience

  • PhD (9+ years experience) or MS (11+ years experience) in statistics, biostatistics, or a related scientific field with clinical trials or drug‑development experience.
  • Proficiency in scientific computing/programming (SAS, R, or Python) and advanced statistical analysis, data manipulation, graphing, and simulation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Expertise in applying general and cutting‑edge clinical‑trial methodology to solve complex problems in clinical development.
  • Experience preparing for and participating in global regulatory agency interactions.
  • Strong collaboration, organizational, and leadership abilities.
  • Experience developing approaches to enhance workforce planning and talent management strategy in a therapeutic area.
  • At least 3 years of direct or matrix management experience (preferred for people‑manager positions).

Compensation Overview

Location: New Jersey
Base salary range varies by location:
• Cambridge Crossing: $244,990 – $296,867
• Madison – Giralda, NJ: $218,740 – $265,060
• Princeton, NJ: $218,740 – $265,060
Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available. Final compensation is based on demonstrated experience.
