Position Summary

The Director of Biostatistics is a key member of cross‑functional teams, contributing to the development of compounds within a therapeutic area. The role drives innovative and efficient study designs, leads statistical support for clinical development, and provides guidance and management to ensure high quality, timely deliverables. The director also plays a strategic role in clinical development plans, regulatory submissions, and post‑submission activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive innovative and efficient study design, creating designs that support regulatory approval, medical research, and market access.
  • Lead, initiate, and oversee statistical support for the development of compounds within a therapeutic area.
  • Provide guidance and management to statisticians to ensure high quality and timely deliverables.
  • Engage as a matrix team member, acting as a scientific and strategic partner in drug development.
  • Present and defend complex statistical solutions to all levels of governance, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
  • Contribute to clinical development plans, lead related submission activities, and post‑submission strategies.
  • Provide statistical support for health authority requests, publications, presentations, and public release of information.
  • Maintain compliance with BMS processes, SOPs, and global project standards.
  • Develop and maintain statistical SOPs, providing training on statistical topics.
  • Manage a functional or project budget, allocate resources, set priorities, and ensure adherence to standards.
  • Represent BMS at professional societies and in industry‑wide technical discussions.
  • Contribute to the statistical community of practice.
  • Coach team members to develop solutions to complex problems.
  • Communicate the GBDS mission and vision, fostering pride, excitement, and commitment.
  • Promote an inclusive culture, respect diversity, comply with process, and encourage constructive feedback.

Applicable to People Managers

  • Act as an employee advocate and mentor, providing leadership to empower and develop the team.
  • Guide employee development plans and conduct performance reviews and feedback.
  • Develop performance metrics for staff.

Qualifications & Experience

  • PhD (9+ years experience) or MS (11+ years experience) in statistics, biostatistics, or related fields with clinical trials experience.
  • Proficiency in SAS, R, or Python and advanced statistical analysis, data manipulation, graphing, and simulation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Expertise in applying statistical and clinical trials methodology to solve complex problems and align with regulatory agencies.
  • Experience in global regulatory agency interactions.
  • Strong collaboration, leadership, and organizational abilities.
  • Development of approaches to enhance workforce planning and talent management within a therapeutic area.
  • At least 3 years of direct or matrix management experience (preferred for people manager).

Compensation

Cambridge Crossing: $244,990 – $296,867

Madison – Giralda – NJ – US: $218,740 – $265,060

Princeton – NJ – US: $218,740 – $265,060

Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities may be available based on eligibility. Final compensation will be determined by experience and qualifications.
