Overall Responsibilities
The Executive Director will serve in a leadership role to support the Mission and Membership, in conjunction with the long-term vision and strategies as provided by the Board of Directors. Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Management of the Organization
- Enhance membership efforts through regular contact with members, listening to and actively supporting member concerns, endeavoring for successful outcomes and identifying prospective members that would benefit from our programs.
- Actively fundraise for programs approved by the Board of Directors.
Financial Oversight and Budgeting
- Oversee preparation of annual budget, forecasting and financial over-sight for the organization.
- Oversee revenue generation through dues, sponsorships, and events.
- Oversee contract negotiations and vendor management.
Board Meeting Support
- In conjunction with the Chair, prepare Board meeting agendas, take notes to prepare minutes.
- Review and provide proper reports and communications to the Board.
- Provide Work-In-Progress reports of current efforts of all types to the Board.
- Have a thorough knowledge of 501(c)6 rules and regulations to maintain compliance with same.
Public Meeting Attendance
- Testify and Comment with organized records at public meetings where issues of concern to VC CoLAB members are being considered Public meetings such as Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, City Councils, Water Districts and others as deemed appropriate.
- Review Hearing Agendas and prepare action strategies.
- Build subject matter expertise on issues pertaining to Water, Housing, Energy, Environment and Land Use.
- Research issues within areas of expertise that support our members.
- Arrange meetings with partners and others to discuss common areas of advocacy.
- Organize advocacy efforts and manage legal, political, PR and other consultants and budget accordingly.
Communication of Policy and Advocacy
- Write Newsletter articles
- Write content and stories for campaigns.
- Write opinion for print and online media.
Reporting Relationship
Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors.
Experience
Individual must have a minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, 5 years’ experience and understand complex regulatory language and be able to negotiate on behalf of members. Must have proficient skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and communication software. Must have experience in writing technical letters and stories. Proficiency in GIS and/or Google Mapping is a plus.
Expectations
Must have solid leadership and organizational skills and be detail-oriented. Must have integrity and build working relations with staff, donors, current and potential Members, Board Members, vendors and contractors. Individual will present a neat and professional appearance. Must have strong interpersonal skills, and solid verbal and written communication skills. Individual must be able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
