
Commercial Portfolio Analyst

The role supports commercial lending teams through ongoing credit administration, with a primary focus on financial covenant compliance and related portfolio monitoring activities. Responsibilities include independently tracking, calculating, and assessing covenant compliance and collateral margining to identify potential credit deterioration and ensure adherence to loan agreement requirements.
Adhere to BMO credit policies, regulatory standards, and operational guidelines to effectively manage and mitigate risk exposure.
Apply working knowledge of accounting principles and financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow) to support credit analysis and underwriting.
Demonstrate operational understanding of commercial loan agreements, including key provisions such as repayment terms, financial covenants, collateral, and amendment processes.
Analyze financial information, tax returns, credit bureau reports, and related documentation to support credit decisions.
Independently perform financial covenant compliance and collateral margining calculations for an assigned portfolio to identify potential credit deterioration and ensure loan agreement compliance.
Make sound, policy‑compliant credit decisions and recommendations using established credit‑granting principles.
Perform financial calculations accurately while working with limited supervision.
Identify opportunities for improvement and propose practical, creative solutions to enhance processes and effectiveness.
Assume additional or broader responsibilities as required to support team and business objectives.
Qualifications
Preferred 2 – 3 years of relevant experience in credit, lending or financial operations in a corporate or banking environment.
BMO Credit Qualification within one‑year of assignment.
Bachelor’s degree required; Business Administration, Finance and Accounting preferred. Any other related discipline or commensurate work experience considered.
Specialized knowledge from education and/or business experience.
