
Technical Designer - Children's Apparel

Overview
An established NYC-based wholesale manufacturer of branded and licensed children’s apparel is seeking a
Technical Designer
to join their team. This role is critical to ensuring consistent fit, quality, and construction across all product categories.
Location: New York, NY. Onsite work required, 5 days per week.
Must-Haves
Minimum 5 years of technical design experience (children’s apparel preferred)
Strong expertise in knit and woven garment construction
Proven experience creating spec packages and grading rules
Ability to lead fit sessions and evaluate proto/development samples
Solid understanding of patternmaking, sewing terminology, and construction
Experience working with vendors and communicating technical feedback clearly
Proficiency in Excel and MS Word (Illustrator is a plus)
Must be able to work onsite in New York, 5 days per week
Key Responsibilities
Partner with Design and Production teams to establish and maintain fit and construction standards
Develop detailed spec packages, including grading and construction details
Measure and evaluate samples (development and proto) for accuracy, quality, and workmanship
Lead fit sessions and provide clear, actionable feedback
Communicate fit, construction, and quality comments to vendors using detailed explanations, diagrams, and/or patterns
Collaborate with Production and Compliance teams to ensure all products meet children’s safety standards
Respond to internal and vendor inquiries related to fit, specs, patterns, and construction

Ability to manage multiple styles and timelines in a fast-paced environment
Clear and effective communication skills across cross-functional teams and external partners
