Academic Year Internship Program As an Academic Year intern you will work on real projects, contribute to meaningful work, and develop skills across two full semesters. Time Commitment:
16-24 hours per week (exact schedule to be determined based on business need)
Location:
New York, NY (interns are required to work from the New York office)
Recruitment Timeline
April 20: Applications open
May 8: Applications close at 11:59pm ET (early submissions recommended due to volume)
Early May – Mid June: First round video interviews
Mid June – Mid July: Second round interviews
Throughout July: Selected candidates receive offers

– research, file records requests, analyze data, organize media, assist on local shoots.
Booking Unit
– support guest research, manage lists and pitch packets, handle in‑studio guests/shoots.
Business Technology & Innovation Unit
– assist digital, television, and investigative teams with research, newsgathering, story production, monitor news outlets, pitch enterprise stories.
Network Desk
– assist during breaking news: make calls, listen to traffic, log press conferences, check social media, assist logistics for on‑location coverage.
Audio Unit
– support podcast production: research, booking, scripting, editing, posting; cover breaking news to investigations and features.
NBC News Now
– research & fact‑check stories, edit video/graphics, pitch future segment ideas, mine and edit video and sound.
Commerce Editorial
Shop TODAY
– manage social editorial calendars, write social‑first shopping stories, support projects and report on social posting data.
Select News
– build articles in CMS, track workflow, develop new copy flows, write e‑commerce content, update existing content.
Editorial
Digital Documentary
– assist pre‑ and post‑production, research, asset gathering, catalogue NBC archives, pitch stories, help with story development.
Digital Platforms
– write headline variations to optimize click‑through and engagement.
Digital Tech
– pitch, write, and report stories on technology and the internet, including AI developments.

– report and write original health features, interview experts, pitch ideas, identify trends in wellness.

– find and verify user‑generated content, interview sources, obtain information for coverage.

Basic Requirements
Actively enrolled in a degree‑granting program at an accredited institution for the entire program duration (September 2026 – April 2027). December 2026 graduates are not eligible.
Current class standing of sophomore or above (at least 30 credits). Students on F‑1 CPT, OPT, J‑1, or M‑1 visas are not eligible unless they can change to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.
Authorized to work in the United States without requiring future sponsorship.
Available to work 16-24 hours per week during the program dates.
Willing to work in New York, NY.
Desired Characteristics
Junior or above preferred.
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
Strong interest in the media industry.
Commitment to building an inclusive work environment.
Previous internship experience and on‑campus involvement.
Strong interest in and knowledge of current affairs.
Desired majors include Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, Digital/New Media Studies, Communications, Political Science, Production, Social Media, English, Business.
The hourly rate for student interns is $19.00.
