Must Haves

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience/training.

Preferably

5+ years

of engineering experience in manufacturing or product design.

Experience with composite material processes strongly preferred.

Experience designing a wide range of tooling to support composite bonding, trimming, assembly, inspection, and transport.

Experience creating and maintain detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CATIA V5, fully documenting tool geometry, materials, and requirements

Must have experience surfacing in CATIA

Possibly open to Creo or NX

Day-To-Day A client of Insight Global is seeking a Tooling Designer to sit fully onsite in Middle River, MD. The candidate will collaborate with process engineering, quality, and operations teams to define design requirements and develop production methods and tooling concepts. Their daily work includes designing a wide range of tooling used for composite bonding, trimming, assembly, inspection, and transport, while creating and maintaining detailed 3D models and 2D drawings in CATIA V5 that fully document geometry, materials, and specifications. They support internal teams and external vendors throughout tooling fabrication, design reviews, and final acceptance, ensuring all tools meet engineering standards and industry best practices. The candidate participates in new product design reviews, applying DFM/DFA principles and providing technical insight. Their role requires strong design capability, advanced CATIA V5 proficiency, high attention to detail, and the ability to perform engineering calculations, tolerance stack‑ups, GD&T definition, and material selection, with added value from experience in composite manufacturing processes such as layup, bagging, and trimming.
