About Us
The Denver Police Department Crime Prevention and Control Commission is seeking a Research and Evaluation Specialist. The mission of the Denver Crime Prevention and Control Commission is to create and execute an evidence-based, accountable, and efficient public safety strategy to reduce crime and delinquency in the city. Established by City Ordinance in April 2005, the Crime Prevention and Control Commission has been operational since September 2005. The Commission is housed within the Manager of Safety’s Office and is composed of 32 designated system representatives and appointed community members. It works through five committees: System Performance, Youth Prevention, Reentry, Jail Services, and Mental Health.
About Our Job
Data Management and Analysis
Request and prepare data for analysis, perform basic and advanced statistical analyses, and prepare and present findings. Provide input for and/or assist with database construction and data quality control. Coordinate data collection as it relates to Commission program evaluations as assigned.
Research and Evaluation Support
Conduct research of other jurisdictional policies and procedures to advise on best practices and prepare and report findings. Conduct literature reviews and assist with grant preparation and writing. Document specific initiative or program processes, develop and maintain forms for data collection, develop and maintain training and procedural manuals for programs as assigned. Coordinate and oversee Commission program evaluations as assigned.
Professional Interaction and Program Coordination
Receive and respond to correspondence via letter, email, phone, and in-person. Interview persons for information gathering and data collection. Assist the Commission Executive Director in all aspects of the Commission’s work, including coordinating, organizing, preparing for and following up on Commission meetings. Attend related meetings, take and disseminate minutes, and provide follow‑up on requested action items. Assist with planning, coordination, implementation, and management of various projects and initiatives. Assist with compiling Commission reports, including the Annual Report.
About You
Requires an Associate Degree in Public Administration, Management, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, or a related field and three years of technical or administrative experience performing standard research and evaluation, case management, and/or implementing work processes. A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements. The ideal candidate will have a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Management, Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Statistics, or a related field and five years of technical or administrative experience in similar contexts. Bi‑lingual ability to speak both English and Spanish is desired. Experience with research design and performing statistical analysis is highly desired.
