Overview
The Designer will own the design and development of trend-driven children’s apparel (sizes 4–20), translating brand vision and market insights into commercially successful product. This role manages the design process from concept through production, balancing creativity with strong technical execution and business acumen. Working closely with Sales, Merchandising, Technical Design, and Production, the Designer will play a critical role in building cohesive assortments that meet client needs, align with brand DNA, and deliver on sales objectives. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong design instincts, attention to detail, and the ability to operate with a high level of autonomy.

Responsibilities
Own the design and development of seasonal collections across multiple categories within sizes 4–20.
Create trend‑right, brand‑appropriate designs, including silhouettes, graphics, color direction, and print concepts.
Build commercially viable assortments based on style plans, client needs, and market trends.
Develop detailed flat sketches, colorways, and technical packages with accurate construction and trim specifications.
Manage sample development, including daily communication with overseas vendors to track progress and ensure on‑time delivery.
Review and approve samples, providing clear and actionable feedback on fit, construction, and quality.
Conduct ongoing trend, color, and competitive research to inform seasonal direction.
Assist in developing and presenting seasonal concept boards, fabric direction, and key silhouettes.
Ensure all designs meet account‑specific requirements, margin targets, and production timelines.
Partner with Merchandising and Sales to align design direction with SKU plans and customer strategies.
Collaborate closely with Technical Design to support fit development and ensure product accuracy.
Communicate design updates, approvals, and changes to Production and overseas vendors.
Work cross‑functionally to ensure product is both aesthetically compelling and commercially successful.
Take ownership of categories or key accounts within the business.
Support and provide guidance to Associate Designers and junior team members.
Contribute to a collaborative, fast‑paced, and solutions‑oriented team environment.
Maintain organization of sample racks, fabric/trim libraries, and digital design files.
Ensure accuracy and upkeep of tech pack archives and seasonal documentation.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or related field.
4–7 years of design and/or product development experience, preferably in children’s apparel.
Strong understanding of garment construction, fabrics, trims, and embellishments.
Proven ability to manage product from concept through production with minimal oversight.
Strong trend awareness with the ability to translate inspiration into commercially viable designs.
Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator; Photoshop preferred.
Ability to create detailed flats, tech packs, and construction packages independently.
Strong merchandising sensibility and understanding of retail landscape.
Excellent communication, organizational, and time‑management skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Collaborative mindset with emerging leadership skills and a proactive approach.
Benefits

New York pay rate: $80,000 - $100,000 (actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to experience, specialized skills, and internal alignment).
