Overview
The Center for African Studies seeks a Managing Editor for Research in African Literatures, a leading peer‑reviewed academic journal. The Managing Editor plays a key role in coordinating the editorial and production processes and ensuring the publication of high‑quality scholarly content.
Key Responsibilities Coordinate all aspects of journal publication from manuscript submission through final production
Serve as the primary liaison with authors throughout the evaluation and revision process
Communicate and coordinate with the publisher, typesetters, and printers during production
Advise on production planning and scheduling to ensure timely publication
Review and edit news releases and journal communications
Work closely with authors to produce high‑quality, polished articles, including:
Proofreading and copyediting
Ensuring adherence to journal style and citation guidelines
Verifying facts and accuracy of figures, dates, and references
Standardizing content and improving clarity, coherence, and readability
Qualifications Strong editorial judgment
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple deadlines while collaborating with scholars and publishing partners
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree
Compensation and Benefits
Target hiring range: $20.24 - $25.00 hr. Salary depends on experience.
