Position Summary

The Health and Wellness Director is responsible for driving member and program participant satisfaction and retention by ensuring the delivery of high-quality health and wellness programs and services that promote engagement and overall well-being. This role provides leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of fitness and wellness offerings, ensuring they align with YMCA standards and meet the evolving needs of the community. The Director supervises staff, supports training and development, and fosters a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages member connection and long-term participation. This position also collaborates with branch leadership to support operational goals, monitor program performance, and maintain a safe and effective wellness environment. This position may involve early morning, evening, and weekend hours. Essential Functions

Program Development

Ensure that staff personal training national certifications are up to date. Manages group fitness and personal training programming to maximize member participation. Oversees and executes community health programs, including Livestrong at the YMCA and grant-funded programs. Develop relationships with businesses and partners to deliver health and wellness programming to the community. Establishes new program activities, increases participation, and expands programming within the community in accordance with Association and operating plans. Responsible for program enrollment, retention, evaluation, payment records, and reporting of records to the Executive Director. Membership Development and Retention

Interviews, tours, and follows-up with prospective members to ensure they join the Y. Receives member and participant feedback, resolving concerns and complaints. Implement New Member onboarding programs, training health and wellness staff to effectively contribute to goal achievement, relationship development, program engagement with all members during their first 90 days of joining the Y. Human Resources Management

Interview, hire, train, and manage qualified personal trainers. Responsible for the cultivation of staff with knowledge, skills and abilities to support the health seeker. Supervise full-time and part-time wellness employees (including wellness staff, personal trainers and massage therapists and fitness instructors). Review, approve, and submit payroll. Fiscal Management

Responsible for all aspects of budget management. Prepares cost analysis on existing and new programs. Assists with annual campaign and special events. Facility Management

Enforces facility rules and procedures. Maintains current standards of training equipment and procedures. In partnership with Facilities Team, monitors equipment usage and condition. Communicates safety standards. Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure the success of the YMCA and its mission-driven work. Compensation

Education : Bachelor’s degree (BA, BS) in Exercise Science or a business field preferred Experience : 3 years’ related experience in Exercise Science or related Health and Wellness field, personal training, and/or program development. Supervisory experience required. Prior YMCA experience preferred. Proven Expertise : Working knowledge of computers and experience with a variety of software applications or ability to learn propriety software to enter or edit member information. Mission-Driven Leadership : Demonstrated ability to build and sustain positive working relationships at all levels. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages and lifestyles. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization. Ability to apply critical thinking skills to troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis. Ability to present data and concepts to large groups of people and be understood. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to apply common sense understanding in order to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb, or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
