Role Description:
An Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Department Manager oversees the strategy, design, and daily operations of the EDI system to ensure the seamless, accurate, and secure electronic exchange of business data with trading partners (customers, vendors, etc.). This role is crucial for optimizing supply chain and business processes.
Minimum Requirements:
Typically a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Systems, or a related field.
5+ years of hands-on experience in EDI systems and protocols, often including 1–3 years of supervisory/management experience.
Extensive knowledge of supply chain, logistics, or retail business processes.
Deep understanding of EDI standards (ANSI X12) and common transaction sets (e.g., 810 Invoice, 850 Purchase Order, 856 Advance Ship Notice, 997 Functional Acknowledgement).
Proficiency with EDI translation and mapping tools (e.g., Cleo, Mulesoft, OpenText)
Familiarity with secure communication protocols like AS2, SFTP, and VANs.

Responsibilities:
Team and Operations Management:
Supervise the EDI team, including analysts and developers, managing their daily tasks, performance, and professional development; Oversee all daily EDI operations, ensuring the continuous monitoring and smooth flow of transactions; Manage the department's budget, resources, and project schedules to meet organizational goals and expectations; Establish and enforce departmental procedures and documentation standards for EDI design, mapping, and operating protocols.
Strategy and Project Leadership:
Develop and implement the overall EDI strategy to support organizational initiatives, such as supply chain efficiency improvements or digital transformation; Lead EDI projects, including onboarding new trading partners, system upgrades, new document implementations, and infrastructure modernization; Define project scopes, deliverables, timelines, and resource allocation for testing and implementation support.
System and Data Integrity:
Troubleshoot and resolve complex EDI transaction errors, connectivity issues, and data discrepancies promptly to minimize business disruption and avoid fines/chargebacks; Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and compliance with established EDI protocols and standards (e.g., ANSI X12); Collaborate with IT teams to integrate EDI systems with internal Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and other business applications (e.g. Oracle)
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Act as the primary liaison between the EDI department, corporate executives, cross-functional teams (e.g., IT, Logistics, Finance), and external trading partners; Gather and analyze business requirements from internal stakeholders to design and implement appropriate EDI solutions; Coordinate with external partners for EDI testing, certification, and issue resolution.
