Job Summary
A Data Center Technician installs, maintains, and repairs hardware and infrastructure within a data center environment. They ensure servers, networking equipment, and power/cooling systems operate efficiently with minimal downtime.
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, and maintain servers, racks, and network equipment
Perform hardware upgrades, replacements, and troubleshooting
Monitor system performance and respond to alerts or outages
Manage cabling (fiber and copper), labeling, and organization
Support power and cooling systems (UPS, PDUs, HVAC coordination)
Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance
Document work, inventory, and incidents accurately
Assist in data center moves, adds, and changes (MAC work)
Follow security procedures and access controls
Collaborate with network engineers, system admins, and IT teams
Required Skills & Qualifications
Basic knowledge of servers, networking, and operating systems
Understanding of data center infrastructure (power, cooling, racks)
Experience with hardware troubleshooting and diagnostics
Familiarity with cabling standards and tools
Ability to read technical manuals and diagrams
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Physical ability to lift equipment and work in server environments
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field
Certifications such as:
CompTIA A+ / Network+
Cisco CCNA
Data Center certifications (CDCTP, etc.)
Experience with ticketing systems and monitoring tools
