Africa Department Intern
Responsibilities:
Support animal care staff in daily husbandry, cleaning, and habitat maintenance.
Assist with food diet preparation, including cutting and weighing.
Participate in routine husbandry tasks such as blood draw, injection training, and foot care.
Observe and log animal training sessions.
Qualifications:
18 + years old with interest in zoological or botanical careers.
Hard‑working, detail‑oriented, and professional.
Positive, team‑oriented, and visitor‑friendly.
Comfortable handling a variety of species.
Full availability for the 14‑week session.
Animal Ambassador Intern
Responsibilities:
Engage visitors with animal ambassadors and educational encounters.
Assist in habitat setup, enrichment, and routine husbandry.
Observe training sessions and support staff as needed.
Qualifications:
Strong customer‑service skills.
Passion for conservation education.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑building environment.
Animal Excellence Research Intern
Responsibilities:
Collect and maintain animal behavior and welfare data.
Assist with study design, technology setup, and reporting.
Conduct animal welfare and enrichment research projects.
Support the Animal Excellence Team as needed.
Qualifications:
Current junior or senior in Biology, Zoology, Psychology, or related fields.
Experience in research, data collection, and analysis.

Animal Nutrition Intern
Responsibilities:
Assisted in diet evaluations and body condition assessments.
Tracked, organized, and created diet records.
Learned nutrition analysis and quality control.
Supported commissary staff with product purchasing.

Computer skills (Excel, Word).
No direct animal contact required.

Ability to work independently.
Veterinary Technician Internship
Eligibility:
Registered veterinary technician or enrolled in an AVMA‑accredited program.
Responsibilities:
Assist with field procedures and immobilization set‑ups.
Perform laboratory and anesthesia monitoring.
Administer medications and support necropsy.
Maintain hospital sanitation and inventory.
Communicate with keepers and curatorial staff.
Interact with visitors courteously.
Qualifications:
Strong written and oral communication.
Computer literacy (Word, Excel).
Basic medical terminology and anatomy knowledge.
Ability to calculate dosages and perform calculations.
Working Conditions:
Regular standing, walking, climbing, and lifting (up to 75 lbs).
Exposure to outdoor weather.
