Department: Media, Communications and Journalism
Since 1928, the department has prepared thousands of students for professional media careers. Courses offered include advertising, broadcast and digital journalism, film, photography, public relations, and video production.
The department seeks qualified candidates to teach undergraduate courses such as:
MCJ 40: Introduction to Advertising and Public Relations (taught in-person)
MCJ 106 Publication Design
MCJ 144 Writing to Influence
MCJ 146 Media Planning
MCJ 155 Non‑profit Public Relations
MCJ 158 Advanced Writing to Influence
MCJ 180 Water and Strategic Media
or other classes that may be identified as needed to fulfill educational goals of current students
Instructor Responsibilities: Temporary faculty members are responsible for adhering to university and system-wide policies, preparing and delivering lectures, conducting proctoring and grading of homework, quizzes, projects, midterm and final exams, and meeting scheduled class times in the assigned modality.
Conditional Appointment: Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to the order of assignment provisions of the CSU/CFA bargaining agreement.
Eligibility: Applicants must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States; Fresno State is not a sponsoring agency for Temporary Faculty positions.
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with qualifications. For a Master’s degree holder, the range is $5,507–$6,677 per month for 15 WTUs, with adjustments based on WTUs assigned per term. Salary ranges are established by the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers).
Semester Availability: The faculty pool is continuously open, filling positions as needed. Nominal semesters include:
Fall 2026: August 19 – December 22, 2026
Spring 2027: January 15 – May 26, 2027
Required Qualifications: Education – Ph.D. or M.A. in media, communication, journalism, or a related field with emphasis in advertising or public relations. Experience – Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
A commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experience and evaluations.
Successful undergraduate teaching experience.
