Overview The Network Engineer II is an intermediate technical expert responsible for complex troubleshooting, leading smaller network projects, and acting as a high-level escalation point for NOC teams. This role requires the ability to independently diagnose and resolve chronic performance issues, validate solution designs, and drive the execution of significant network changes.
Responsibilities Complex Troubleshooting: Independently diagnose and resolve critical and chronic network performance issues across global LAN/WAN/Security infrastructure using advanced diagnostic techniques
Project Execution: Lead and execute medium-scale network projects, including site turn-ups, technology migrations, and major firmware upgrades
Escalation & Mentorship: Serve as the primary technical escalation point for Tier 1 Engineers and NOC Analysts, providing expert guidance and technical mentoring
Design & Architecture Support: Collaborate with Tier 3 Engineers to review and validate low-level design specifications, ensuring feasibility and adherence to operational standards
Security Implementation: Implement and maintain network security policies, including firewall rules, VPNs, and intrusion prevention systems (IPS)
Essential Skills and Knowledge Advanced Networking: Expert-level knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP), advanced switching features (HSRP/VRRP, complex QoS), and firewall configuration/policy management
IT Service Management: Solid understanding of ITIL v4 principles, especially Change, Incident, and Problem Management
Monitoring & Diagnostics: Deep proficiency with packet analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark) and network performance monitoring (NPM) system
Scripting: Basic experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for network automation or configuration management
Required Qualifications Security Clearance: Must be eligible for and able to successfully obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Public Trust clearance
Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressive experience as a Network Engineer or senior technical specialist
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, Network Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent work experience)
Certifications (Required): Must possess one current, major professional-level certification: CCNA, Fortinet Certified Professional (FCP), or JNCIA-Jun
Certifications (Desired): ITIL v4 Foundation and Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) are highly preferred
