Purpose and Scope
The Network Engineer configures, deploys, tests, maintains, monitors and troubleshoots the enterprise network components to provide a secure, high‑performance network. The role supports the stable operation of the in‑house computer network (LAN/WAN infrastructure) and involves planning, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing all network hardware, software and communication links.
Essential Job Functions
Supports development and implementation of networking projects and new technology installations.
Conducts research on network products, services, protocols and standards to recommend hardware and software purchases.
Writes technical specifications for network hardware and software procurements.
Maintains up‑to‑date knowledge of networking contracts and supervises contract‑based installations.
Installs, configures, tests, maintains, monitors and troubleshoots end‑user workstations, network peripherals, cabling and networking hardware and software.
Maintains servers, including e‑mail, print and backup servers and their operating systems.
Maintains security solutions such as firewalls, anti‑virus and intrusion detection systems.
Maintains all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs and UPSs.
Monitors and tests network performance and provides performance statistics and reports.
Receives and responds to incoming calls, pages and e‑mails regarding network connectivity problems.
Performs on‑site analysis, diagnosis and resolution of complex network problems and recommends corrective solutions.
Recommends, schedules and performs network improvements, upgrades and repairs.
Practices network asset management, maintaining an inventory of network components.
Prepares, maintains and adheres to procedures for logging, reporting and monitoring network data.
Liaises with and trains help desk support staff on network issues.
Performs system backups, recovery, server and security audits.
Provides guidance to junior team members as required.
Performs any other reasonable, related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Working knowledge and basic skills to understand and follow simple written or oral instructions.
Hands‑on experience with Cisco Enterprise networking solutions, VOIP environments, WAN technologies and content networking.
Ability to clarify complex problems, adapt approaches, select appropriate tools and techniques, and develop solutions that balance short‑ and long‑term goals.
Ability to lead groups through problem‑solving, solicit ideas and form recommendations or action plans.
Ability to write and present reports, contracts and proposals for internal and external audiences.
Ability to interpret and integrate multiple viewpoints and convey technical information in non‑technical terms.
Ability to formulate recommendations on difficult problems and pursue personal development goals.
Ability to follow IT procedures while recommending improvements and prioritizing work.
Ability to maintain tasks, projects and activities in the IT system of record (S‑NOW).
Physical Abilities
The work is sedentary with occasional walking, standing, bending and carrying of light items. No special physical demands are required.
Work Schedule and Conditions
Use of PC workstation, calculator, phone and other general office equipment.
Interface with internal and external contacts as needed.
Work performed in a climate‑controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Intermediate certification in the area of responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
CCNA, CCNP or CCVP certification.
Salary
Hiring salary range: $80,523 – $92,601.
