Job Description
DOCSIS Cable Modem Experience Testing: Highly desired for effective testing and validation of Customer Premise Equipment (CPE).
Network Engineering Background: Focus on design, build, and implementation rather than operations. This includes hands‑on experience in network engineering, preferably with a cable Multiple System Operator (MSO) or Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Software Testing Experience: Candidates should have a network engineering background with experience in scripting (Perl, Python) and firmware testing.
ISP Background: Highly desired to ensure familiarity with industry standards and practices.
Soft Skills
Ability to work well within a team, be independent, and a self‑starter.
Additional Skills and Background
DOCSIS or Fiber. Candidates should have a DOCSIS or fiber background (including PON or ONU). A DOCSIS engineering professional certification is highly desired but not required.
Wireless Background: If candidates don't have DOCSIS experience, a wireless background in testing with 802.11 experience is acceptable. A mobile background is also okay.
Technical Focus Areas: Includes working on cable modems, wireless routers, PON SONU devices, CMTS to CPE interop devices, and automation test cases. Knowledge of Python is helpful, especially for working with automation tool.
Automation Goals: 80% of the environment is currently automated, with a goal of reaching 90% this year.
Excitement for CPE Devices: Candidates should be excited and willing to work with CPE devices.
Responsibilities
Testing and Validation: Responsible for testing and validation of CPE and backend systems affecting CPE.
Understanding of DOCSIS and Cable Modem Provisioning: Essential for effective test execution and troubleshooting.
Test Execution and Documentation: Involved in executing tests, documenting test reports, and troubleshooting field escalations.
Technical Focus Areas: Includes TR-069, IPv6, Fiber to the Home (FTTH), Voice Services, IP routing, IP multicast, streaming video, and home networking.
Provisioning and Network Protocols: Work on provisioning, DHCP, DNS, IPv4, IPv6, Static RIP, residential, and SMB testing.
Firmware Certification: Involved in firmware certification software for CPE, finding bugs before customers do.
Experience
At least 3 years of hands‑on network engineering experience, preferably with a cable MSO or ISP.
Additional Skills
Experience with automation, databases, scripting, and system administration is a plus.
