Role Network Engineer 4 – Security and Electronic Systems (SES) Business Unit. You will be part of a team that designs, engineers, integrates, operates and maintains electronic security services including intrusion detection, access control, biometric authentication, video surveillance, audio visual, IT systems, perimeter defense and command and control systems for federal, local and commercial customers across high-growth markets.
Responsibilities The Network Engineer 4 is responsible for the design, implementation, configuration, and troubleshooting of the organization’s network infrastructure. This role ensures stability and performance of the network, maintains reliability, resolves issues promptly, and collaborates with other IT teams to support operational needs. Responsibilities include monitoring equipment, updating configurations, and repairing equipment as necessary.
Technical Responsibilities Survey reports: measure results into actionable form for senior personnel and management.
Conduct surveys, inspections, tours, etc. of client sites as required.
Design, install, configure, and maintain network services, equipment, and devices.
Work with field engineers to simulate system-level performance and provide feedback for improvements.
Assist senior network engineers to identify and resolve security issues.
Develop network designs for each SLA classification and originate design documents for small projects and in support of large programs.
Assist in preparation of designs, including narrative and subsystem designs (CAD/Layouts/Wiring).
Prepare specifications, perform QA/QC and technical reviews of designs; lead/test plans and commissioning procedures.
Prepare test reports and commission deployed systems; develop test fixtures and simulation devices.
Design and perform complete system integration tests.
Service & Maintenance Troubleshoot and debug complex network problems; recommend operational efficiency improvements.
Perform preventative maintenance (software/hardware/firmware upgrades), including security updates and scheduled maintenance.
Originate and submit maintenance plans and provide rollback plans.
Serve as backup for team members during paid time off.
Perform hardware/software upgrades and replacements on existing systems.
System Analysis and Reporting Document crucial working procedures and troubleshooting for network operations.
Understand network administration concepts related to business operations; assist in resolving basic/moderate network issues.
Interpret and analyze results versus benchmarks; work with project managers to meet network task expectations; complete tasks to meet deadlines.
Contribute to the team through quality and accuracy of output; perform research on available technologies as needed by Operations or Project managers.
Managerial Responsibilities Prepare cost estimates and supporting documents for projects; assist in bids and proposals cost estimates and pricing of change orders.
Help develop and adapt documents, procedures, and formal processes for the Network Engineering team; collaborate with other disciplines to define work/interfaces.
Role Specific Requirements Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification is required.
Manage inventory of networking equipment; document network info including switching/routing equipment, IP-addressable devices, and cabling interconnects.
Provide expert support to augment network engineering staff; aid day-to-day network maintenance (installation, configuration, operation, troubleshooting).
Review and improve network processes; implement approved improvements; develop QA/QC and disaster recovery plans.
Research, design, and implement security solutions for network infrastructure; track vulnerabilities.
Monitor, analyze, optimize network performance; manage firewall security appliances; stay current with emerging network technologies.
Lead projects as Engineering Lead and/or Project Manager to develop secure, resilient systems; prepare designs, schedules, and cost estimates; conduct design reviews.
Qualifications Clearance/Citizen Type: Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and may meet eligibility requirements, including U.S. Citizenship, for access to classified information. Top Secret with ability to obtain SCI.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; 7+ years progressive experience.
Technical Skills: understanding of ITIL concepts; security implications for network solutions; network concepts, technologies, tools and design, project management, system architecture and analytical/problem solving skills.
Communication Skills Strong oral, technical writing, and presentation skills.
Ability to build productive relationships with team members, clients and stakeholders; ability to collaborate with others outside area of expertise.

Recommended Experience and Certifications Experience reading network schematics, plans, and installation plans; system startup, configuration, and calibration; testing and troubleshooting.
Experience with hand tools and IT/Network platforms (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, etc.); ticketing and monitoring tools; standard software (Visio, Wireshark, Putty, CLI).
ITIL 4 Foundation; Microsoft and VMware certifications; CompTIA Security+/Network+/A+; CCNP/CCNA; CCSP; SharePoint certifications or demonstrated experience.
