Job Summary
The Senior Network Engineer designs, analyzes, plans, and modifies network components supporting customer communication implementation activities. The role involves moderately complex to complex issues where analysis requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors, including SDWAN network design and testing, feasibility studies, and remote site solutions across Humana and its subsidiaries.

Scope of Concentration

Network engineering and implementation expertise supporting multiple SD‑defined network overlay technologies; planning, designing, and deploying new network infrastructure and connectivity for complex environments.

Overseeing and performing administration, configuration, and monitoring of all network equipment & cloud resources (switches, routers, firewalls, ExpressRoute Gateways, User Defined Route tables, etc.).

Support the elimination of existing datacenter dependencies to enable cloud/fastest‑path access (VPN, Web Proxy, etc.).

Connectivity solutions for supporting a hybrid cloud strategy.

WAN circuit topology and telco/carrier technical integration.

Engineering Responsibilities

Design and implement complex solutions across multiple SD‑WAN and wireless platforms.

Build and maintain robust authentication policies using Aruba ClearPass Policy Manager and Cisco ISE.

Develop integrations for Zscaler ZIA with existing firewall stacks and edge infrastructure.

Manage high‑availability environments across diverse switching and wireless platforms.

Participate in the lifecycle of multiple large‑scale projects, ensuring high‑quality delivery through rigorous Methods of Procedure (MOPs).

Serve as a technical mentor to junior and mid‑level engineers, conduct deep‑diving technical reviews, and foster a culture of documentation.

Partner with internal and external business groups to develop technical solutions that meet business objectives.

Design new solutions; configure standard solutions; develop technology roadmaps, manage and maintain them.

Document and update all network infrastructure and supported business processes.

Capacity and performance planning.

Integration with related infrastructure engineering efforts.

Alignment and integration with information security requirements.

Disaster recovery / business continuity integration.

Continuous knowledge and skills improvement.

WAN circuit topology and telco/carrier technical integration.

Assist in motivating and growing the Network Engineering team to its next level of maturity, agility (NetDevOps) and scalability.

Help build foundation and define capabilities and processes to address network needs in tactical and strategic terms.

L4 troubleshooting & resolving network issues and outages.

Application performance troubleshooting using network/cloud tools and methodology.

Define, document, and enforce network standards.

Perform after‑hours solutions implementation.

Support other teams as needed, after‑hours.

Participate in on‑call rotation as needed.

Write & maintain documentation & SOPs for other operations teams.

Required Qualifications

BS/BA in a technical or scientific field or 4+ years industry experience + industry certifications.

4+ years of experience working with SDWAN architecture, network designs, implementations, and support.

Network engineering certification such as CCNP, Fortinet NSE or equivalent.

4+ years of technical network engineering experience, and 3+ years of project leadership experience.

4+ years of Layer 2/Layer 3 network architectural design (WAN/Cloud/Data Center) and engineering experience.

4+ years of experience working with BGP and other WAN technologies.

Strong experience supporting large‑scale environments and remote sites.

Experience with Cisco networking equipment; experience with Palo Alto Firewalls.

Experience in Site‑to‑Site VPN technologies.

Knowledge of QoS and network security functions (firewalls, VPN, IPS, etc.).

Ability to manage complex multi‑organizational projects.

Experience with implementing and operating software‑defined network environments (Cisco, Aruba, Fortinet, Meraki, etc.).

Vendor management skills (hardware/software security vendors as well as third‑party vendors).

Experience working with Data Center Colocation facilities and virtual network fabric provided by vendors such as Equinix and Mega‑Port.

U.S. Citizenship.

Pass eQIP certification background check.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience with DevOps.

Infrastructure as Code experience.

Programming/scripting languages and frameworks knowledge and experience (Python, Ansible, etc.).

Familiarity with Akamai, ZScaler, and ThousandEyes.

Experience with AGILE methodology & ITSM processes.

Understanding of CSP network offerings and how to apply them to public cloud providers (Amazon AWS, MS Azure, Google GCP).

Understanding of Cloud Network Security technologies.

Familiarity with public cloud provider PaaS and SaaS offerings (e.g., Azure Kubernetes Service, Application Service Environment).

Data Center infrastructure solutions: Cisco (R&S), Palo Alto (NGFW + IDS/IPS functions), Infoblox (DDI), Cisco ISE, also implemented on Cisco products.

Work‑At‑Home Requirements

Must have a high‑speed DSL or cable modem for a home office; California residents receive payment for internet expense.

Minimum standard speed of 25 Mbps download × 10 Mbps upload required.

Satellite and wireless internet service is NOT allowed.

Dedicated space without interruptions to protect PHI/HIPAA information.

Pay Range
The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full‑time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job‑related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$97,900 – $133,500 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
